Audio Brand of Choice?
#1
Whats everybody's choice for Audio (Car mainly) Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood etc?
My car is 100% pioneer at the moment (except for the crappy 800w amp), but i'm slowly changing it. I'm getting the Alpine 'CDA-7998R FantomFaceTM XL CD/MP3 Player/Receiver' shortly and changing ALL the speakers over to DLS Smile Sound soo much better and go harder...

Future Plans:
Head Unit: Alpine CDA-7998R
Tweaters: 2x DLS UR1 Tweaters
Front Speakers : DLS 'ULTIMATE' Iridium 3-way Splits
Rear Speakers: DLS 7x10 1070 Referece Speakers
Subs: SP18S - 2x DLS 18" subwoofers (1,500WRMS Per Voice Coil)
Amps: 2x DLS Reference D1000 Digital Mono-Block Amps.

Gawd it will take me a while to get all that... Not cheap Sad

lol yes... Which is why im changing my system over.. Pioneer head units seem to have a bit of a heat problem.. Mine got so hot at one stage the detachable face part melted abit. (The glossy looking front cover over the display). The above shit will last a life time anyhow.. as long as my car alteast hehe.. and DLS is the best ive heard.. Makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up its sweet. and if 1500WRMS isnt enough for you? then nothing will be. (keeping in mind that most things you see 1000w are actually pmpo not rms)

Well, aside from the tape/CD decks that might be in any used car I buy... I could really care less for anything that I would actually have to pay for. Mostly because I normally listen to talk/scanner when I'm driving - not music. My Buick hasn't been altered since I bought it, and I don't want to start putting money into it now.

I'm going to put myself down for Yamaha, with Korg a close second. Nothing to do with the playback aspect of music - but, instead, for their synth modules.

If you absolutely must have an opinion on CD players, I say: Go with an old Pioneer CDJ 700s (if you can find one, they aren't made anymore). Utterly reliable, and they were groundbreaking for their time.

For vinyl, Technics is still my favorite, even though they keep rereleasing the same turntables with minor tweaks under different names - just to keep the friggin price up! The 1200M3D series was probably the best of them.

I'm also going to stick up for Sony a bit, here. Some of their DAT and MiniDisc decks from the early nineties had a nice form of processing they dubbed "Super Bit Mapping". I can't think of anything that does a better job at preserving the wetness of analog tones when converting to a digital recording format. It also takes the edge off of multiple layers of compression.

wtf is trance? And dance, spit? why dance? Rock Alt is the bestest. Rock alt and classic rock, the only real music of the twentieth and twenty first centuries.

And as long is it has good, clean sound, bass, and volume its good. And whats yucky about sony? They make some good systems. You just have to tweak em a bit.

rock alt and class rock indeed. up here in the big WA it's 98.9, 94.5 and 103.1 on the FM radio. that's all. 'cept my little bro put 103.9 (rap) on my channels... so i hafta ditch that.

I've made a few pieces of furniture in my day - but I'd need to borrow some power tools from a buddy 'cuz I sold them to him... so first I'd need to know:

By classic rock, are you refering to people that actually make an effort to put together something nice? Like King Krimson, Grand Funk or Mike Curb?

Or are you refering to that dry consumer rock that record companies insisted be produced to corner the deadbeat market? Like Japlin, Frampton, or the Rolling Stones?

Either way, I am still sickenned by what rap has become... it kinda reminds me of what you would get out of a disgruntled Sesame Street studio musician after he gets fired. Or am I giving those clowns to much credit?
Here comes that same ol' beat... EEgahh! At least bother to toy with the preset voices on the Mo Phatt! I shouldn't be hearing the same sounds everywhere I turn! What a shamefull waste of recorded media Sad

I think I'll get to work on that ball bat now...

To kinda get back on topic... I prefer Kicker Woofers (Solobaric L7's) with RF Amps and a Alpine Head Unit. All my wires are Monster wires and I have Monster Farad caps. I'm very pleased with how it sounds. As for music.. i listen to all types.. just depends on my mood i guess. (cept country.. eww)
