Baseball 2004!!
#1
Hey all. This will be my first post ever on this forum and I'm gonna make it a good one. The Yankees are the greatest sports franchise of all time and I don't think anyone here can deny that. But, to bring up a good debate, Nobody will stand in their way this year!!! Big Grin

i dunno i think the 92 and 93 cowboys were leet and the 60's packers and the 80's 49ers were cool to. oh yeah i think it was the 78 dolphins who had a perfect season so i guess they would be good.

The 78 Doliphins were a phenomenal team, but over the past century, nobody can outshine the vast number of Yankee Dynasties

Just because a team has a lot of good players doesn't mean the team is guaranteed to win. Look at the Lakers this year. Everyone expected the Lakers to go undefeated. What win games in all team sports is chemistry, and money can't buy that.

Yeah, actually money does buy chemistry

Really? Marlins' payroll was pretty low last year.

Why do they call it a payroll again?

yankees are an embarassment to baseball, they spend 10 times more than any other team and still dont win as much as they are expected to, all that supposed talent but theyre greed is to great to overcome, every true baseball fan hates the yankees, i personally like the pirates even though theyre not to good right now

You're not getting my point. Talent is bought. Chemistry is developed. Anyways, I don't care much for baseball. Basketball and football are the only real sport out there.

Thank you God, finally a person who will let me say what I really need to say. Let me enlighten you on a few very important facts. First of all, when the Yankees come to town, it's a sell-out or a near sell-out. Tell me how improved t.v. ratings and higher ticket sales hurts Baseball. Secondly, you call the Yankees an embarrassment, they won 26 world championships over the course of a century. Without Roberto Clemente, the Pirates are an embarrassing failure. And thirdly, the Yankees continuously make it deep into the Playoffs. Now money definately helps, but they spend smart. Examples of stupid, but high, spending: 90's Orioles, the Mets, the Mets, and... the Mets

The only thing I look forward to in baseball is the same thing I look forward to in hockey... fights.

Heh, well as a big baseball fan I'll tell ya, fights don't happen often and are usually boring. You are watching a bunch of wussies fighting. remember that these same guys sit out weeks for a sprained finger. But baseball still reigns supreme!!!

the yankees are an embarassment becasue they have ruined the game, baseball and all sports for that matter should be about a desire to play not about money, the yankees exemplify this point, people watching is good and ill give the yankees credit for that but in the end it only contunes the cycle by giving even more money to them, and when they go out of town the fans go to see theyre team beat the yankees, the pirates are currently struggling with a misguided owner who trades away all theyre potential, just look what happened last year, not to mention jose guien, barry bonds, jason schmidt just a few in the past few years that the pirates have gotten ride of, in the early 90's they were in the playoffs when the had bonds, bonilla, and van slyke and they have won theyre share of world series in the past

fights are also an embarassment to the game, and no baseball players are wussies except pitchers, it takes balls to have a guy through a 95mph fastball at you and still be able to stay in there and hit it, and they have no protection except catchers, and being cleated is no small thing, or getting in a collision with no padding which football and hockey players have and lots of it

Hey, as a Yankee fan, i really can sympathize with you for your long period of incubated hatred for the Yankees. And I can even remind you that the Pirates defeated the Yankees back in the 60's in the World Series. But all I have to say is that George Steinbrenner cares about the sport, and treats it as his main business investment. And look how well it pays off. The yankees never started the players need for money, this is a misguided statement. The Players Union started the corruption in sports when it comes to uneccesary contracts. I agree that nobody should make that much money off a game. Just realize the Yankees never started it, but just were the only ones to take advantage of the situation

i never said the yankees started it, i know its the players unions fault, im just saying that because steinbrenner willingly dishes out so much money to players hes only fueling theyre greed, i know he cares about his team and the game but i think he cares more about business and the yankees make a lot of money

Im sorry if i'm the only one looking at your latest statement gaccet, but to say that steinbrenner is fueling this troubling fire, it just sound like jealousy. If the Pirates were big spenders, i guarantee that you wouldn't mind it...as long as they did as well as the Yankees usually do. Wink

Basketball is pretty damn boring. Football is a bit entertaining but can still be boring. Now baseball is a sport. Its America's past time AND proven to be the most complicated sport out there (I should know, Im playing it Big Grin )

As for the Yankee's, their talent is bought every year. They get a game winning RBI by a groundout, and ***** about not hitting the ball to the grass. Jeter needs to take the **** out of his *** and play without whining.

Giambi lost me; dont know why the **** he left the A's.

I love the A's, been my team since the day I was born (I only live 20 miles away from the stadium Big Grin ) The A's arent the best team, but they dont let the small things get to them. If they lose, they play harder the next game. If the Yankee's lose a game, they usually play like shit the next game.

So in conclusion, the A's know how to have fun. The Yankee's know how to *****. And why are people bringing up basketball and football when this thread title is "Baseball 2004" ???

of course im upset that my team isnt doin well who wouldnt, but if it ment that the pirates would have to spend big to get good players i would be extremely disappointed, besides my team does get good players without having to spend alot and then they sell them to the highest bidder, dam management

In response to this nublitoria, I can clearly see You remember the 2001 playoff series between the Yanks and the A's, and Jeter's series saving play that put the dagger in the heart of the A's and their fans.
