Bad-ass hack out... beware...
#1
Alright, a little background...

I'm just playing, trying to trade off my necro torch for a pally torch right? So... Someone's like "yea man, i got it. I also got bla bla bla..." and stuff. I'm like "okay, torch 4 torch... join this game..." they join, go to act 2... once I drop my torch, BAM, crash... I join again, go near that area, BAM! Crash... Him and his friend didn't crash (no point in pointing fingers, I know who they are, not like it'll help you guys much).

The warning? Never trade in act 2. If this crasher gets to all of the acts, drop trading will be gone as we know it. Here's a TXT of the error report thing:

http://zd.hopto.org/zd/Files/D2060111.txt

Hope this doesn't hit you peeps! Happy playing!

PS. Yea, I lost my torch... After about 5 mins I wasn't pissed... I realized it was just a stupid game, and I got homework that I should do (though I still didn't do it), and a life to live (though I phoned my GF SLIGHTLY late... at 11:20... she's usually in bed at 10:00... :\)

PPS. What stats does a smite paladin need? And what's a good shield? I hear hoz, but I was wondering its smite dmg compared to other stuff (i'll check up on the items... and get back to you ladies Tongue)

WOW

All I can say is wow..

well no I can say plenty more than that... I'm shocked & appauled that with all the informative forums such as this one you've now years after Diablo 2 came out fallen victim to a hack that has been out since the game started. Nicely done..I recommend quitting forever..or you're going to get alot more frustration..unless ofcourse you buy a few more items off d2legit to forget your troubles.

Do a little research next time.

It crashed when seemingly me or any of my friends (had about 8-14 join the game and goto act II) went remotely close to that area... It is obviously quite deadly for the drop trades, and one should avoid act II trading at all costs due to this.

I'm not too suprised that Warden hasn't caught this... They're too concerned with maphack for one, and I think this could just be programmed, so no packets would be sent. Typically, anything "injected" into the Diablo II.exe (the core) can be made undectectable. Which blows (they should scan the files size every time they login... That could be a cool way of dectecting it...)

You are correct in that assumption..but the key word there is "EVERY" patch..once a hack is created..especially a scamming one..its creator is more often than not just some prick who thinks its hilarious to hustle honest players out of their items..

rather than a true connoisseur of the art form that is hacking//programing//reverse engineering. Pity all those who appreciate the work devoted to these utilities keep them private for themselves.

I've always thought it would be groovy if Blizzard armed honest players with anti-cheat utilities. So they could make duped items poof from the losers who have them & stuff like that..rather than just overseeing the flock considering them all cheats.

*Edit* What fries me the most about these scammers is their mindset..they use hacks functioning with 1.11b although blatently detectable..so they steal the items you gamed for..& then they get banned for using the hack that scammed you out of your stuff.. & why..usually just to be a prick..not that they even necessarily want the item..rather just to say look what I got off this dimwit..Asinine!

Heh, reverse engeneering isn't really easy to crap some source out of a .exe. Especially in C# (i've tried it with some programs, check out how they work). Not to mention that with every update, SINCE they patch it it'll become harder to make up a new way to exploit these type of "bugs" or whatever they use exactically (suprised they didn't just make a stack overflow error... wouldof been easier in my opinion, though you'd be kicked too...). But yea, it takes awhile to program... These people have no lives, and clearly can't get near the top without cheating. I'm actually cool about it right now, Infact i'm gonna create quite the unique sorc Smile

Other than babbling on, I got nothing else to say really... So... i'll kindly shutup Tongue

this is not a hack, bot, mod, or any type of 3rd party it is a bug in the program. ive had it pulled on me a few times. i know, its frustrating but now you know not to trade in act 2. glad u posted it now other players wont make the same mistake you made.
