Target Effects - A Short Guide
#1
I have written this short guide on how to use target effects in a Diablo II shortcut placed on the desktop. Using these can have Diablo II become better and easier to use, and you will not be banned for using these things.

To start, right click on your Diablo II shortcut and select Properties and then the Shortcut tab. Look for the Target box.

After the target (located in " "), add a space and type each target effect you want to use. Each new effect must be separated by a space.

Here are some possible target effects you can use:

-altcolor Change color of monster health bar.
-autorest: Automatically restarts Diablo II upon exit
-bn <#.#.#.#>: Set BattleNet server IP. Replace #s.
-bnacct <account>: Sets BattleNet account name to this automatically
-bnpass <pass>: Sets BattleNet password to this automatically
-client: run in Client mode
-clientexit: Exit Client upon game exit
-direct: Reads files directly from the disk instead of in MPQ files. Often used by certian Diablo II mods
-mpq key1.mpq: Load key1.mpq (useful for additional CD keys)
-nohide: Don't hide the Diablo II window when losing focus.
-notitle: Game window has no title
-ns: No Sound at all. Game will crash when attempting to play end-of-act videos
-realm <realm>: Sets BattleNet realm, example: -realm USEast
-res800: Start at 800x600 (avoids window moving off-centre on load)
-skiptobnet: Skips opening videos and connects to BattleNet
-sleepy: Call sleep(1) to avoid D2 using 100% CPU time. Great for any fast computer
-title "whatever": Would set the window title to whatever
-txt: Generates the .bin file. Used by mod creators.
-w: Run Diablo II in window mode

Note: -altcolor -nohide and -sleepy only work with D2Loader

Reply if you have comments\questions, or if I have left any important ones out.

Edit: Added note on -ns
Added -nohide as a D2Loader ONLY target effect

Some of those I have never tested. Try it yourself.

Personally I use

For RGX Mod
-direct
-txt

For Cool Effects
-skiptobnet
-w
-res800
-sleepy
-altcolor

Last two require D2Loader ^

For use of some hacks that find the title of Diablo II, mine is changed by D2Loader

-title "Diablo II"

Put in there somewhere if you put the command -ns, when you go from one act through warriv or those guy to the next, you get "Hey guys, we have a big error here!"

I know what everything is supposed to do. The only one I have not tested myself is the BattleNet IP one. A friend of mine told me it worked, and in the programs code the command does do something. As to what - you will have to test it yourself. I may test it later today, it might just set the server IP that you connect to BattleNet on. Normally, it detects the fastest server for you and uses that. I am not talking about creating games, just what server you connect to when you log in to BattleNet.

If you want me to remove that one, I will. I tried to leave out all of the ones that I find useless or too hard to explain. There are more then 100+ possible target effects I know of, most do nothing of importance or are too hard to explain and could only be exploited and used properly with third party programs that depend on that effect.

Holy, can you really get the desired serv IP with this cmd?
That would be like godly ... DC-wise ...

No, as I explained above, it wont matter when you make a game. It finds the fastest server for you when you click the BattleNet button. If you put a USEast server IP in with that command, you would use that server when logging in and using Diablo II instead of the one it found fastest for you. That is what I think anyway...

That's only when you changed acts for the first time, i.e. a video is about to be shown.

Does anyone know whether I could alter the colour of runes with any command?

i alse seem to remember reading in a readme that you no longer need to add -sleepy because the new d2loader was automaticly does that now. is this correct?

I will read up on it for you Siris, I thought it was still optional.

The rune color can be changed through mods like RGX mod. I never post a link to download something without a guide to go with it, and I have gotten in trouble for posting certain hacks on here from outside sources. They were clean, they just don't like it.
