Mercs better is you keep them form low lvl?

Are mercs better if you keep them from a low lvl? Im lvl 90 and just got a lvl 89 merc, But im re-building my char, should i get a merc when i start him, or should i wait untill im a high lvl?

they do have higher stats if you manually level them as opposed to buying them high....depends on if you want to do the extra work..i used to think it was worth it, now i dont and just buy them high

Ya i pretty much just use a hammerdin when i play.......the monsters are usually dead before my retarded merc realizes what is going on so i honestly dont think its worth it, unless ofcourse you have like a crappy sorc and need all the help you can get

Well, when I was level 1, I got to NM Act2 and hired a Defensive merc (For Holy Freeze), which was level 2. (1 level above me ;o). Was planning on waiting till about level 80 to train it, but after training it until above level 8, I gave up since it still had 40 HP and I didn't wanna get it to 20 or whatever it needed to gain more HP since it always died in 1 hit. So, I just hired a level 78 merc and leveled that. It is best to higher a lower level merc, but due to just saving time and frustration, I would only get a merc at about level 30 or so that you're planning on keeping and level that one up.
