Baseball 2004!!
Gaccet, I unlike you have read Jackie Robinson's biography and if you think that baseball was any better than society, well you can keep thinking that cuz I obviously can't do anything to change your position. However, I highly doubt you will ever provide me with a picture of Jeter making a number 1 after he hits a homer, since he does it only 15-20 times a season and has yet to hit one this year.

I hare baseball.... and Americans go TEAM SADDAM!!!

So you hare baseball. I don't see how thats possible but ok. And why do you keep posting off topic. Its not so hard to stay with the discussion xc.

it might have been an old clip, but it was on espn, so i dont know if u could challenge the validity of it,

also for racism i am refering to baseball being more advanced 'THAN' society, racism was obviously a pervasive problem in the 40's but also 'ALL' African American were banned from even sociallizing with whites, baseball took one of the biggest first steps by 'losely'starting to desegregate and obviously there would be racism in baseball, but the point i am trying to make is that baseball was further along than the rest of society, many later civil rights leaders looked to jackie for inspiration and influence and he was even a leader himself, in every history class ive taken the teach alsways mention the importance of jackie in regards to civil rights especially involving baseball

And to add on to my side of the debate, seeing the severe racism Jackie recieved on and off the field inspired him to talk about it and becoming a leader for the Civil Rights movement. However, in this history class I hope the teachers also discussed how racism in the Northeast was nowhere near the same degree of hate that it reached in the South. Jackie probably dealt with racism on an off the field and maybe worse on the field when he had to travel to teams in the south and deal with their fans and players.

Cos im bored and dont take forums seriously

You don't have to take forums seriously man. But for people who enjoy having discussions why bother interjecting with your petty spurts of meaningless discussion.

off the field is society whcih was clearly racist, but even the fact that he played in a traditionally white only institution breaking the color barrier show that baseall was better, albeit even midly, it still helped pave the way in its own way,
but as for the north, i recently interviewed my grandfather about the 50's especially racial relations for a project, he lived in the North and remebers there was still a pervasive racist attitude among northerns, definetly not as bad in the south, but there was also a lot of protests in the north because there was segregation in the north and to help gain support and awareness for the civil rights movement

Is there much racism still in America towards Blacks and other ethinic groups??? ( the only exposure i have 2 the US is American talk shows... LOL.

p.s i hope America isnt really like Jerry and Mauri!!!

Branch Rickey, owner of the Dodgers, was the man who believed a black man could succeed in baseball. He signed Jackie Robinson and became sort of a mentor to him. Now maybe we can look at a few people like Rickey, or even the commissioner of baseball for allowing the move, but I don't think you can just note a few people as desegregationists and say that baseball was better. WHile Jackie got his job, there are other stories outside of the world of baseball where other black men were being allowed to slowly start to work in places which were primarily white.

no its not like jerry and mauri, those are fake, ive actually seen the people on the shows in comercials during the episode in which they are on lol, as for racism still thats up to debate, i say that the vast majority of people are not racist like 99% not, i know there is still racism but we're talking about the KKK or Neo-Nazis, but what i find most disturbing is with ur question "towards blacks and other ethnic groups" which implies that the only racist people in America are white

A majority of the European population is anti-semetic. A majority of the Muslim population is anti-everything. I think 99 percent of our world is rascist and is a big factor for the systematic murders or genocides we see happen in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. But back to baseball...GO Yankees!!!!

racism isnt a big issue in australia... i dont know why, may be its the mentality of Australians... i guess its just eaisier 2 get allong with others then waste allot of time and energy on racism. Australia is allso to multicultural to be racist... a racist head would explode in Australia.

he asked about America, what i find most interesting is that no other country has the diversity that america does and therefore does not face the same racial problems we have because they havnt had to face them, so i say even though America has had problems in the past for our age and the conditions in which we live i think weve done a half decent job as far as race relations are concered

for baseball what about watchers

Australia and America and parts of Western Europe are both rampant with racism, however the people are much more civilized and rather than killing those they don't like, will just speak out against them in other ways.

my grandmother lives in New Zealand (practically Ausie) but from what i gather u have mostly Aboriginese(not sure of spelling) and Asian/South Pacific Islanders but are very small minority compared to the 18%black, 20%hispanic,10% or so (i think) of others(middle eastern, asian, native american, jewish, etc) we have, so race problems are probably not as big a factor because u dont come into contact with other races as much so it isnt as big of an issue
Reply
Yeah NZ is practically australia??? and u know racism is rampant in Australia cos u live here??? well i acctuallly live in Autralia and racism is not a problem.... and australia eccepts the largest ammount of immagrants based on a ratio.
Reply
i dint say u guys were racist i said u werent because u arent as exposed to many different races like we are in america, comm on u know NZ is practically part of Aus.
Reply
Umm no its not... its totally different... and we are exposed 2 as many cultures as americans, were just not racist because we dont have the same mentallity as americans!!!
Reply
so give me some stats on ur minority populations to prove u are just as exposed as we are, well at least us Americans think u 2 are the same, and us Americans are obssesed with race relations because it has been a black stain on us in the past and past wrongs are hard to forgive and forget (for some anyways)
