Dungeons and Dragons
#1
Alright, I have recently bought a Dungeons and Dragons book, The Player's Handbook, Core Rulebook 1 v. 3.5. I bought it so i can begin to understand and play Dungeons and Dragons, a game i have been wanting to play since early childhood, and never had the opportunity until now. Thing is, there isn't much i know about the game. I only know what i have learned, which isn't much.
Do any of you know a website or a certain book of D&D to learn more? I know i need The Dungeon Master's book and the Monster Manual copies, but other than those books, is there any book i should buy?
Also, is there online books i can get, too? I would appreciate any information over D&D. Thanks

There are literally tons of books out there you can learn from but really the best way is to just play. If you have a buddy that has played and can DM for you then you should have no problems getting into it.

that is the problem, i don't know anybody nearby who plays.
lol.
tons of books, huh? that isn't very inspiring... lol. i knew D&D would be a difficult game, but i did not realize how much until i started reading the Player's Handbook. I started creating a human sorceror since i got the book {on monday}, and i just finished him today, i just need to finish a few details.

Well, I mean tons of books written on how to get started, meaning a large selection but you really only need to choose one. I didn't read any of them I just tried to learn through experience. Also, some good games to pick up that actually helped me in learning the rules and stat systems especially are Neverwinter Nighters, Baldur's Gate, and Icewind Dale.

games? are they D&D games, or is it some expansion/sub-game?
i finally figured out how to create my character, the only thing now is to figure out how to do the adventures, combat system and magic casting system.
i can't wait until i get to play. i know of this hobby shop in huntington that {if i am correct} plays D&D, so when i start learning more i'm going to go there to play with others.

Hunington? I dated a girl from there once.

They're video games that use a modified version of D&D rules that is a bit more simplistic and can really help you out with character building. I forgot to mention Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic as well as another D&D based game.

huh.
i have played Balder's Gate, and the general concept is helping me out a bit, as well as concepts from different RPG games i have played.
the biggest problem i have right now is the time concept in D&D. it is really hard to figure out how to create a campaign, and the combat system. other than that, i think i have the general information down.

You typically want the DM to create the campagin so that you don't know what's going to happen. It usually just consists of drawing out a map and planning encounters. Of course you usually want a story but it's not completely necessary, though it is for the full experience in my opinion. It's not dificult, just time consuming.

I made my first campaign! It took two entire days {yesterday to make the story itself and it's layout}, and today to draw out the maps. Unfortunately, i don't know how to correctly size both the map and the story {told in Dm view, i.e. where the traps are and what creatures go where, and what items the adventures get}.
if i can figure out how to upload the information over the site, i will, so someone can give me feedback, {which more & more frequently seems not to happen}.

Well, I'm probably the only one here has played D&D and is willing to admit it.
