micro management, otherwise known as microing, is the process in which two armies fight and small scale tatics are needed to win.
in most fights in starcraft, the players just select ther units and press attack ground, this is not an approved method. throught micro management unbeliveable ods can be achivied, such as 4 dragoons against 6 zealots, 10 zealots against 12 zealots, 11 zealots against 12 firebats. etc
the basic idea of microing, if to select your units and attack one unit at a time, while at the same time selecting weaker units and telling them to move back, because, wether a dragoon has 1hp or 80 hp, they still to the same dmg.
for example, in a 4 dragoon verse 12 zergling situation you you select all four dragoons and tell them to attack one zergling, during this time, the other lings will attack your dragoon closest to them, when this happens, pull back the weakened dragoon behind the other 3, the lings will stop attacking the weak dragoon and start attacking 1 of the other 3, and do the same thing for the 2nd weakened dragoon, your wil total the 12 lings. however sometimes this doesnt work, for example, 11 zealots against 12 firebats, firebats, even with concussive dmg only doing 8 dmg can wreck your zealots head on even with the microing i wrote above. for this u keep your zealots in a straigh line, (to minimize splash dmg) and take one zealot and make the 12 fire bats follow it. then u lure the 12 firebats between your luring zealot and the 10 other zealots

now you get the antoher zealot from the 10 and try to lure the 12 firebats to you, now the firebats wont know who to chase, the first luring zealot, or the second one. then u make the 2 zealots go seperate ways and whoever has less firebats chasing them, tell them to go back to the 9 standby zealots and attack the firebats, you must make sure to have an eye on the other luring zealot because if he dies then your screwed. if the correctly, your 10 zealots will have succsessfully killed about 4-5 firebats, continue this pattern untill there is only 4-5 firebats following you then use your remainging zealots, about 6 along with the 1 luring zealot (7) and attack the remaining 4-5 firebats, if done correctly then you can win almost impossible odds.
to practice microing whisper me at mh-monkey and ill give you micro-challenge, a map with many scenarios where u fight almost impossible odds.
microing also helps in melee games where units are valuable, such as carriers and bcs
