You buy the modem that is connected near the expansion bay.

yeah, theres a 40$ adapter, price might have gone down, thats what it was a year and a half ago, but its a modem connecter that goes in the back of ur ps2, only bad thing about ps2 though is that not many games are offered online, so spend ur money wisely or choose games wisely

yeah, same as a xbox, if ur using cable/dsl just use ur ethrenet cable, but ps2 works with dialup also =)
