Question about Ubers

I just started playing after about 3 years off and was wondering what works best vs Ubers.

I can solo hell chaos with my blizz sorcy but when I attacked uber duriel I couldn't even hurt him! what's up with that? My sorcy is kind of middlin, but I figured I'd at least be able to scratch the guy with level 29 blizz.

Is there a good guide anywhere on how to do that?

sadly I am too poor to get a real smiter. Grief is a little bit out of my price range, I've only been playing three weeks
