while the pope has no official political power, he is still the head of one of the most powerful religions in the history of mankind. as a leader, he has the power to influence the decisions of millions of people. if you or i say we favor abortion, no one would care very much. if the pope said he favored abortion, that would shake the foundations of pro-life organizations everywhere. it could be likely that the opinion of the pope could convert a majority of pro-lifers to pro-choice. that is why the pope holds a lot of political power in the world. with his position, people tend to want to imitate his opinions
