Using Hero Editor, you can socket rings and amulets. If the Quality is Low, Normal or Superior, you can fill 6 sockets. If the Quality is Magical, Unique, Set, Rare, or Crafted, then you can fill 7 sockets. I haven't checked it out, but I have heard that sometimes rings will only "use" the attributes from the first 6 sockets. You must socket the rings and amulets in Hero Editor; it is not possible to socket them in a D2 game.
And if you didn't know, you can make Ith jewels and socket them in items. As long as they are socketed in items, the D2 game won't delete them. Using Ith jewels allows you to double the number of attributes. So, for example, you can put Level 31 Holy Shock in the Magic list, and put Level 31 Holy Shock in the Rune Magic list, to get Level 62 Holy Shock. If you put 7 Ith jewels into an amulet, just this one attribute can therefore be stacked to get Level 465 Holy Shock [(1 + 7*2) * 31 = 465].
I hope this helps.
