I am not sure I agree.
People are living longer on average. You might claim murder rates are up, but not if you take into account Stalin and Hitler's genocides. Or the Trail of Tears if you are a fan of the American genocide.
Iraq may suck, but as far as wars go, it has been a particularly effectively run war from the US standpoint. By comparison there have been fewer fatalities on either side than every US war except the Spanish American (to which it bares a striking resemblance except in that war, the irresponsible American press started and encouraged the war instead of defaming it).
