I've seen the message appear several times, especially during dclone hunting!
And the odd thing was that the sojs were sold at high speed after the first warning appeared that bnet would be closing that server down.
And that made me realise something,
This method may not be suitable anymore for duping, however it still causes a rollback if noone saves or exits. So maybe some smart*ss found a way to decrease a servers' stability and thus force bnet the close it down. While people get the message that it will go offline, WHAM!; It's soj selling time. Result, a HOT ip without wasting any precious sojs.
Maybe that's why blizzard decided to change the ammount of sojs needed to spawn mr. clone. It used to be something like every 125-150 sojs sold on a server Diablo would take a walk. Now it's every 75-150 or something right? So back when the mimimum soj ammount was 125, people could easily use this "trick" untill there were 125 sojs sold and then let some forthright suckers sell sojs for real untill the big guy spawned. Now that the minimum decreased to 75, the power of the exploit is limited. If you would apply this trick after 75 sojs you'd risk that Diablo would walk the earth during a server closedown which would force you to choose between anni or your sojs. Either you'd rapidly kill him, pick up the charm, save'n exit and never see your sojs again
or you wait nicely for the server to close down, get your sojs back and wave goodbye to that anni charm.
It's all just speculation, maybe I'm like totally wrong about it.
