I've seen a Boxer replay where he takes on several carriers with a handful (about 6 or 8) of marines and a few medics.
Micro is heavily underrated. If there is a method to give yourself better odds in a fight, you should learn it. I've killed about 8 lurkers with 8 marines and 2 medics before without detection. The game's about being smart with your units.
