no pontiac is not based in australia but the 04-05 GTO's are modeled off the australian produced Holden Monaro. from what i can guess Holden produces a few different models of vehicles that have been adapted by other foreign and domestic brands such as the pontiac GTO and the Toyota Tacoma (holden rodeo). that way they don't all have to drive subarus
