Clay Golem is much more useful while being much less costly (mana-wise), and summon resist has horrible diminishing returns after level 1.

With skeletons, skeleton mages, a slightly buffed clay golem, a nice mercenary and some sturdy bone armor it is unlikely you will die in any fair situation on hardcore.
