It was a Denial of Service attack... I don't think that the user banned here for posting here had anything to do with it, just some idiot looking for his time to shine. His story about a BotNet is plausible, it would take a lot of power to take it down.
My friend was proxy testing and two proxies got a 0x50 response out of 100 proxies from the USEast server shortly after it became inoperable. Avoiding technical details, this means USEast was not completely shut down (as it would be if Blizzard had shut it down for a specific reason), but rather having extreme server lag in the form of a Denial of Service attack, causing it to shut down.
If warden had went down, they either would have manually shut it down until they could re-enable (causing a realm-down message and a 0 response), or you would have encountered an error whenever you created a game.
Long Story Short
Your wrong – Classified is right but I don’t think he personally knew the person or did it himself. The hacker was spamming USWest about it after it happened, any person who could have seen that could have made a post.
