did i hear someone say trivium? those guys pretty much suck. matt heafy has a good voice in a small part of like light to flies, other than that they are pretentious wanna be suckers. you can feel them skipping the rhythm parts so that they can solo and waste your time showing themselves off. if they were great they would not have to and it would speak for itself. although the band does get a passing grade they are obviously talented. not near so as opeth though. opeth is pretty major, the solo in, shit i can't remember the name, dungeon master or sth is short, sweet, awesome, colorful and to the point.
if you're talking about rock guitar there is only 1 or 2 that can possibly be considered the best. the two who started alllllll the trends and blazed a trail when there was none. randy rhodes and eddie van halen. is there a more quentessential rock song than metal health? good god any of these shit "rock bands" like slipknot or limp bizkit (although wes moreland is very very good) would eat their own feces to write a song like that.
i know you young kids want to have your new heros be the best and all that but you gotta smarten up. eddie van halen is the most talented person to ever pick up a guitar, rock anyways. his riffs are pure and even though pretentious they come across as genuine. the 1984 album lacks in rhythm (good thing alex can keep it goin) but he is playing at his full capacity. not like some of the musical cowards afraid to take chances with their music.
yngwe malmsteen??? that guy is a total poser. eddie van halen can play in jeans and t-shirt while yngwe spends hours getting dressed or whatever he does.
there are many many taltented solo artists but isn't the point of rock to bring people together and to show off while not showing off at the same time?
i know people will disagree with my next two picks but i respect them greatly. billie joe armstrong (green day of course) is very amazing. although he takes on many faces and attitudes when playing, trying to be this, then that, he plays with no pretention and restrains himself from showing off with heavy solos that go nowhere. i see billie joe as more of an actor or stage preformer than guitarist. mark wossname from creed kicks major ass and is probably the best living guitarist as far as rhythm is concerned. i know scott stapp is a total scab ****head retard but that's just hwo the dice got rolled. mark is genuine and complete and does not try to play outside of his range.
i take points away from jimi hendrix because of all the acid. it's a shame really. sobriety should be most important. no cheating. jimi page is obviously a top pick but i see him as more of a maestro that just enjoys playing than someone to be contended with. stevie ray vaughn is a pompus ass, he has lots of talent but watching him is like wathcing a stevie ray vaughn advertisement.
seriusly though it is impossible to say, i would never vote a band with a negative spin about them as being the best. that's personal for me i think it's bullshit to try and be negative and say your'e a badass when it takes 100 TIMES more courage to say what you really feel. imagine someone of those ****ed "rock" metal band singers trying to pull off a song by journey. hahahaah nice try gg owned.
as a final note my favorite (possibly) guitarist is david gilmore from pink floyd or whoever wrote the main rhythm and solo for hotel california. joe walsh? i shoudl know but i don't. the solo on pink floyd's time is comparable to hotel california and both will always (until topped) hold the coveted positions in my top 10 countdown.
oh one more final note, hehe. the who is recorded (fact) as the loudest band ever. and no it is NOT because of the size of the amplifiers. eat that fred durst you stupid ****.
