The reason could be that it makes u sick as i've already said.. And yes it is poisonious.. Almost everything is if u take it in too big amounts.. Like salt.. Its actually pure poison, but if u take it in a little amount it wont harm you..

EDIT: And if it really was that harmfull it would be forbidden in USA..
