When I used mmbot, I wore the following:
Helm: Shako (Um, Ptopaz, whatever you like)
Armor: Coh Archon (Keeping your ass alive and mf to boot)
Weapon: Eschuta's Temper (Good lite base and lite facet)
Shield: Lidless Wall(With P Diamond/Um. I was on nl though, if you can wear Spirit and have enough strength then go for it)
Ammy: Mara's (Res, Skills, Stats)
Rings: SOJS (Mana, Skills, the very best)
Belt: Arachnid (+skills)
Gloves: Upp'd Magefists (FCR, mana, +1 warmth. If you really want to, Frostburns work)
Boots: Eth Treks (Great stats. War travs can be used for mf if you prefer)
Switch: CTA and Lidless/Spirit
Charms: 1 Anni, 1 Torch, life/res scs or 1 Lite GC
Skills:
1 Warmth
1 Frozen Armor
20 Charged Bolt
20 Nova
20 Chain Lightning
20 Lightning
1 Telekinesis
1 Teleport
1 Static Field
1 Thunderstorm*
1 Energy Shield*
13(rest) Lightning Mastery
*Thunder Storm: does 2-3k and stuns close monsters. 1 point for 2k-3k, and auto-attacking, is nice for duels outside of botting.
*Energy shield: can save you ass if you get hit big.
Stats:
str:enough if any at all
Dex: enough for shield
Vit: rest
Energy: little to none
Merc gear/Type:
I prefer to use a defiance merc as they tend to stay alive easier (and with cheaper gear) and they keep you alive. Most monsers are cold immune anyways so Holy Freeze is virtually useless.
Helm: Coa/Vamp Gaze/Shako/something servicible
Armor: Shaftshop/any expensive 1337 armor
Weapon: If you can afford it, use infinity. Personally, I was nl and only used a cresent moon and it worked fine.
A merc is needed more as a meat shield than for actually killing things. The stronger you make him, great. However, as long as he stays alive then he's effective.
I haven't played D2 in a while, so feel free to challenge my opinion but this is what has worked for me and it should work for you. A botting lite sorc doesn't have to be rich, she simply needs to be adequate.
EDIT: I missed your last question.
The mm.bot has a built in resting period. It will run a set amount of runs, then rest for a certain amount of time. I wouldn't worry about realm down unless things have changed drastically since I last played. I'd run it and see if you need help if you encounter problems with bnet.

As long as darkness flows through my veins, I will never cease, As long as my dreams still haunt me, I will never show mercy, and as long as evil lives I will never die.....
