Well with a necromancer you really can't go wrong....they are overpowered. From my personal experience, get up your Summon Skeleton up, then when you can work on Skeletal Mage, then put points into skeleton mastery. As for your stat points I put a bit into strength and Intelligence. Later when you have some summons up to about around 10 each you can work on teeth for a nice aoe to support your minions.
There are many different builds so its hard to say what you really want....I would say, play single player and use hero editor, and give yourself lots of points in skills and level yourself up, and fill your stats to what they would be at that higher level. then try all different combos then whatever you like best, work on that in real time, instead of single player.
As I said before, the Necromancer is an all around good class so its hard to go wrong with it...as for armor and weapons I'd say just to try and keep gear with + to your skills you are using and the stats you find that help but are not putting points into.
