The only way I can recover the data on the cheap would be to buy another hard drive exactly the same as the one that is dead and swap the circuit boards over. They seem to be a problem on Western Digital drives so ive heard. Otherwise there is paying about $400 for a professional company to recover the data, Which is a bit overboard... I'm just going to cut my losses and start fresh. Also invest in a dual layer dvd burner to back things up
