How to protect yourself from viruses/trojans/spyware
#47
I said nearly 2 years, firts off read the post in it's entirety before calling me a liar you idiot. I have had my current PC running in good performance for 2 years, I have had Norton 03 on it for nearly as long as I have had my PC, note that I got it from a friend not the store...so I have no idea about a release date...but I have ahd it since a couple of months ater I got this PC..so that is about 1 1/2 years. Second here, Norton may have damaged a system in past versions, but 2003 does NOT damage your system. If it did, my PC would have been destroyed after more than a year with Norton on it and running. Tonberry, might I ask, if the Pc that was damaged by Norton couldn't get a virus because it had not been on the net, was it ever on the net, because there IS such a thing as a sleeper virus that will activate days and sometimes months after infection, so if the PC had ever been on the net, it could have had one and if it were and older Norton it may not have picked it up. You may be right about that one PC being damaged by an older Norton, but the newer Norton, along with the fact that someone may have done something unknown to that certain PC you keep referring to, makes it impossible to rely on that for proof that Norton is bad. Norton is good now, might not have been before, I don't know, I never used anything before 03. So I won't argue about anything before 03 because I honestly don't know. But 03 works fine, and that one PC you saw mess up could have had an older Norton, could possibly have already been screwed before Norton was installed, and may have had a sleeper virus, so quit using that as proof, as it is not a credible reason to call Norton "bad". EDIT: NOTE TO TONBERRY: You are an idiot, you should read my entire post before posting. I said clearly that I have had my PC for nearly 2 years without any error other than my own mistakes, and that I have been running Norton 03 for nearly 1 1/2 years now problem free. Thus, Norton is NOT a problem. Quit trying to convince anyone otherwise, because I am willing to bet this forum is full of enough techies that know well enough what they are talking about to prove you wrong, one of those would be me, so quit your whining and *****ing because you may be right aout Norton screwing with one certain PC's BIOS, but I gurantee it WAS NOT a procedure of the Norton program. Possibly a glitch or malfunction in the program, which happened solely on that PC, and solely with that SINGULAR NORTON PROGRAM DISC. Don't believe me? Ask any of the hundreds of techies around...
