Yasser Arafat's Death
#1
If you didn't know the Palestian and PLO leader, Yasser Arafat passed away. I was just wondering what effect on the middle eastern peace process this will have.

I personally think that this won't really have that big of an effect on it, as the war between the Israeli's and the Palestinians has been going on for thousands of years. But some people seem to think that his death will bring peace.

So what effect do you guys think this will have?

More countries for Bush to invade? Tongue

I hadn't known he passed away.

Ye apparently he passed away not long ago i have no idea what this will do to israels relationship with the country but it aint gona stop the bombings
#4
everyone dies eventually, but most of the palastinians told the media that he had passed away a while ago then he finally did pass away for sure.... it might bring peace.... either that or another person like Suddam Hussein might take over..
#5
Unlikely. They wont reach peace untill the palestines get "their " country back.

yeah, but as long the palestinians think that it's "theirs" and the israelis think that it's "theirs" then it'll never stop until there's complete genocide, or something.

lol, that would suck.

Yeh, i just read the article @ cnn.com, too bad what a shame; he was a great man, the israelies however aren't too fond of him; they should have solved this in a more peaceful manner rather than fighting.

i think that arafat died a few days ago.. thats wat i heard from some of my friends in the army. but i think that it was good to have him die b/c now they can change the person who is the leader
#9
ya, just hope for the best if u live there i guess
#10
Yea i agree with all you've said but arafat said he wasnt responsible for any of the bombings it was militant groups so as long as the bombings go on israelis will get more angry and there will be more bloodshed
#11
His death will probably bring peace seeing how he was a terroist in the first place, mabey they will elect a new leader to bring peace or it will be a terroist once again. I guess we will have to see what happens

I think Escaron is right, we'll have to wait and see what happens. What i think is that if their new leader isn't strong enough, that the PLO could collapse, and the Palestinians will probably begin to split up into little sects like it was before Arafat. Afterall is was Arafat that united the Palestinians together. So, we'll have to wait and see.

Ok, only one goddamn person in this thread said a word that was really right and that was Alfzzz.

He started out as a terrorist he was reformed though and was a man that was comitted to peace his death is nothing but MORE bad news for the Middle East...
#15
yes it might get worst 'cos the new leader can be an extremist .. even if it's not, extremists groups will continu to act.
what can we do ? i think we should let 'em fighting.
ps : i think that israelist took palestinians land ..
#16
whew big jump there but israelis took no land at all. The british had created this whole mismatch of countries in the middle east since the Ottoman Turks were defeated in ww1 because they had sided with the Germans. After this they had broken up and so britain had the great idea to split it up between religions and races and shit causing the biggest trouble the world has ever seen. Then in what 48? (correct me if im wrong) britain had the brilliant idea to take palestinian land and make it for the israelis. Overall Arafat was a pretty good leader, you cant deny this. He had lived in total solitude because he was constantly in attack. Think of how bad his life was because he was trying to get back what was his and what shouyld be rightfully his land. America is on the Israeli side for hell knows why so this is good news here supposedly. I like Arafat personally but theres nothing i can do about that war. You just have to leave them alone and totally ignore them. They will eventually settle the conflict amongst themselves. Now that Arafat is gone tho we will have a huge internal dispute among Palestinians that will not only cause them to kill one another but kill civialians in the streets and cause many casualties. I personally wouldnt want to live there at the moment nor be a Palestinian because the Israelis are the toughest fighters in the world IMO. Thats all i have to say.
