Ethics of cheating.

About cheating on closed realms, this quote from a post in the Amazon Basin sums up my thoughts perfectly.

"Sure, as long as it has zero effects on the others who don't think it needs a little "touch up". I.e. not trading the items you've found while maphacking and botting, not trading stuff you or someone else has duped, etc. Not with legit players, that is. Doing ANYTHING else has a chance of GREATLY PISSING PEOPLE OFF and there are FAR more ammusing ways to piss people off then cheating at D2.

With the odds of a WF droping, without duping, there is no way soo many .08 WFs could exist. Rares with IDENTICAL names and stats (imp brow, soul spur, etc...) are dupes. Bugged items and other items that cant even drop are either dupes, or whoever created them had a quick and easy method to make them, (coppies of the same, and therefore, dupes)

As to why dupes matter.

Game balence.

For example, a WF is CLEARLY overkill, com'on, think about it, a RANGED weapon with more damage than any 1 handed weapon and quite a few 2 handed ones. So how is a WF ballenced? Rarity. WFs are balenced by the simple fack that they are soo frickin rare, 1 out of 50 zons having a WF isn't un-balencing, having 49.9 out of 50 zons using a WF IS UNBALENCING.

There is, wether you know it or not, a rather LARGE amount of people who play CLOSED b.net, to avoid the BS you commenly find on open b.net. These people don't like thier game being runined by ingnorant, power hungry.....ok.... you get my point, I hope.

Why were rings like C-Grip balenced? Because the odds of getting a ring like that were astronomical.

Think about this anology:
you're playing football with some friends, 2 NFL players join the other team, your friends say its perfectly fair, and you procede to you get your posteriors kicked, The game, to you, has become almost totaly un-playable, because the other team has a rather large advantage over you.

Most seriously legit players, at the point right befire 1.10, considered public games almost totaly unplayable, why? because the game had become totaly unbalenced.



About botting:
One way of thinking about botting, is that it adds the effect of more people Mfing, without adding more people. Why is this a problem? lets say a Mf bot does the work of 5 people Mfing, non-stop. People (most of them at least) dont play non-stop, so thats the effect of about 20 People Mfing, with one person getting the rewards. 'Ok, what is so bad about that?' you might ask. Game balence, again. Botting floods the realms with more high-end uniques than should exist, by those theroetical numbers, almost 20 times the amount.




Seriously, I dont see the advantage of cheating on realms. Fustrated you cant find uber gear? no problem, play open. Annoyied that even uber gear isnt good enough? go play open... I don't see any case where its easier to cheat on closed. If there is one, say so, but... ill just suggest you go use it on open where legit players wont be bothered by it.

Yes a zon using a low-end matri, plain 60% ias armor, and no damage reduction can beat a dupazon (valor, .08 gaze, .08 WF, etc...) Yes a melee/bow sorc can beat a pally using BotD, what does it take? Skill, and "Thinking outside of the box"

well if u dont agree with the widely accepted definition of legit then dont duel with anyone who uses dupes. if u think ur zon can beat my dupazon then i want to duel u and see how much skil you have

I like cheating... it makes an impossible game beatable:p

the creators sometimes make things too hard so cheating helps.
