Help With Tal Rasha's Tomb

Hello all. I played Diablo II when it first came out until computer trouble ended gaming for me. I'm just getting back to it, because I always wanted to finish the game. I am trying to kill Duriel. As an aside, I think this foe is totally bogus, not in any way fun or interesting, and think the game designers suck for putting this in. All I can see is you click your mouse as fast as you can, drink healing potions like crazy, run away when possible, and die over and over again while slowly chipping away at his hit points. It infuriates me when I reach sticking points like this in games that I have to pass in order to complete the game, but they present hours of sheer boredom to overcome.

So, enough of my ranting (although I could go on). I did beat this dude back in the day, but can't remember how. I'm a barbarian, and I'm trying to use Frenzy. It seems that thawing potions don't work against his freeze attack, so I can never get unfrozen. I try to bash him with frenzy until I'm too weak, then I leap away and town portal back, stock up on potions, and head back. I've already died five or six times, which is a drag, but if I quit and save the game he and the dungeon will reset to the beginning and I'll have spent the six hours I've got into this fight for nothing. How can I beat him? I have lots of rings and amulets, I'm currently trying to max out my attack rating (as an aside, can anyone tell me the impact of higher attack ratings? I've lost my manual). Is there a better strategy?

PS - If anyone knows a cheat that will get me past this level, I'd be grateful. I don't use cheats except in cases like this. I'm using the version 1.1 patch.

First off are you playing on Closed B.Net?.... if you are in single player there are many choices.... Attack rating is extream part of the game... it is what allows you to hit the enemy, you cant get past act 2 w/out addind at least 30 points into Dex.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm playing single player, I don't recall having a choice of difficulty levels. I think I have to beat the game to play it on Hell? So I'm not sure, probably whatever the default is.

My character is 24th level, halfway to 25th. If I wanted to run around an wrack up experience to get to level 30 I'd have another attack, but that will take forever and not be too much fun. My stats are Str 64, Dex 54, Vit 54, En 30. Strenght is modified +2 by armor and Dex +1 by boots. If you could explain how attack rating works, that would help. I have I think squandered some skill points. I have 3 each for sword and axe, should have picked just one and given it all to that. I have Bash 2, Double Swing 4, Frenzy 2, Leap and Leap attack each 1, Iron Skin and Increased Stamina 1 each, and thrown weapons 1, which was a waste because I never use them. I also have Stun and COncentrate 1 each, but I'm not sure if Stun works on bosses. I have three skill points saved that I want to use when I hit level 30. I don't think warcries are useful unless I have a party, but maybe so?

Any help would be appreciated.

Duriel is weak to the magic demage, unfortunely you are using a barb, i recommend you to bring your hilering and use him to keep busy Duriel for a moment while you attack him from far enogh with flying axes in your both arms if you have the double throw skill, use it with these axes so you can get enough advantege when he's busy with your mercenary. "Can not be frozen" and "Cold resistance" are useless for fighting Duriel, he has a special Holy Freeze aura, so be far to attack or if you prefer the melee attack, use "stunt" ability, and hit him as much as you can while Duriel is stunted, then do it again.. 'til you beat him. Good luck!

4 me duriel is quite easy with melee i usually use a lvl 20 pally or barb to kill him at normal but thats just me try hiting him with 2 weapons as much as u can using stunt/hit weapon with some unfreezing pots u can get at town and if he gets close to killing u use a tp to get to town and replentish pots and health

Duriel for me is easy.Using sorc and assasin sux when fightin him(except for sorc's magic)The best for me is still barb.Although barb doesnt really excel in magic and range,but his str is what that counts.Before fighting him open a town portal and remember to keep a full belt of health potions and 1 row for mana.I use bash and attack and bash and attack.Usually i bring his health down to 2/3 before going to town to heal.Keep doing that....attack rating and damage is crucial here.(plus a little def helps)

Duriel should be easy at lvl 24, u just are using the wrong skill or distributed the skills worng...

I have a lvl 52 barb who can kill Nighmare Duriel by himself. my skills are...

Bash - 7
Concentrate - 9
Shout - 9
Battle Orders - 24
Sword Mastery - 8
Battle Commands - 3

i have about 130 dex, 150 str, 65 vit (i have 658 life), and 35 mana

well seems your doing fine.. i guess im no barb master. i prefer you play closed bnet.. if you get stuck you can join a game witch other people are doing the quest and it will be quite ez. sides you can make friends(maybe) and get free stuff. if its USEast bnet you use ill give free rush to act 5 cause you need at least lvl 20 to do ancients.

he is in single player... he can only get on Open b.net with that character he would need to start a hole new account and character on closed.... be if he dose that on east like u side.... i will also help him to my extent

Duriels hit points are 3995 so you'd want to be doing about an average of 100 per hit with a barbarian. You would want to have a 50 + chance of hitting him. You should be using concentrate or frenzy as combat skills and shout or battle cry, I don’t know if battle cry works properly on bosses but i'm pretty sure it does. Duriel does 19- 25 damage each hit and he stuns you so you need a merc. And always have a town portal encase you don’t have potions or if you died.

u guys must remember that when playing on 1player (w/out loading items from editors) will result in your items being the most gh3y thing ever... believe me, ive done it.
