actually punk started out as not much like nething there is today. but yes, now they ARE all considered punk, no need to flip nowadays ull get urself banned :eek:

Punk was started as a way to get out rebellious music really...aimed at the government and the all important goal (to them atleast) of anarchy...punk started (as most would agree but it is arguable) with the Sex Pistols in England and The Ramones in the U.S. Punk was started with the ideals of 1. Not caring what other people thought (yet they spend so much money and time on leather jackets, chains, studs, and patches) 2. Not selling out...basically any punk band that went to a major record label was considered no longer punk by most of the punk community (Greenday was one of the few where most punkers continued their praise of the band for their music) 3.Rebellion...that was the main goal of punk music...and this new crap isn't punk according to the original standards of punk...we call most of this new stuff emo...that's right a lot of this emo crap is considered punk nowadays...it's sad...I'm not a punk fan myself but I do know punkers that stay true to the original ideals...and they always tell me..."It hurts"

Ok sorry for the really long post but I just read the first page of posts and was in awe of what is considered punk...Chevelle = metal...SlipKnot = Hardcore...GC and all that...= new age punk...Greenday = punk...Flogging Molly = Irish Punk (good stuff)...Hoobastank = ...I'm not sure but not punk...but just to mention a good punk band that I as a metal head happen to like...Dead Kennedys
