Amazingly enough almost every one seems to dislike rap in here, but when ever you bring up a real rapper they'll actually say they wrote amazing lyrics or they had a really good beat, like Run DMC most people change thier tune at that point and if that doesent work you bring up Tupac, I don't think any one can deny that some of his lyrics were quite well thought out and delivered.

No, I dislike rap on a whole. The only "rap" that I like are one or two songs by Eminem and ICP. Beyond that the rest is garbage.

I, also, dislike rap. Hiphop is essentially poetry over a looped beat. I don't even try with people who flat out refuse anymore; but to anyone willing, simply look up Sage Francis on a lyric site. I don't even consider Sage a rapper.
#63
Yes but you can't base the whole "rap scene" on one person. I'm agreeing with you that I also dislike rap but I wouldn't consider any of it to be poetry exactly.
#64
Wow, who ever said rap is poetry need's to go read some Dante or Homer really quick and see what REAL poetry is.
#65
Look at the people who listin to it. They're hardly educated seeing they dropped out of highschool to do it. They use slang words that don't need to be used. They're also arrogent twords rock and other generes. At my school me and a couple friends were listing to my teachers Peter, Paul, and Marry CD and some kid came in and turned it off because it was "chinese music" and proceeded to put on his 50 Cent CD in and we just left. A display of stupidity by any means.

Sounds like something someone at my school would do. Except, we probably wouldn't have let him get away with it so easy, lol.

People that listen to rap seem to think that everybody else also listens to it.

Makeshift Patriot
The flag shop is out of stock
I hang myself at half-mast

It's the Makeshift, The Patriot
The flag shop is out of stock
I hang myself ... via live telecast

Coming live from my own funeral
Beautiful weather off at a nice shine
Which is suitable for a full view of a forever altered skyline
When times like these arise, I freestyle biased opinions every other sentence
Journalist ethics slip when I pass them off as objective
"Don't give me that ethical shit"
I've got exclusive, explicit images to present to impressionable American kids
And it's time to show this world how big our edifice is!

That's exactly what they attacked when a typically dark skinned disney villain...
Used civillians against civilians and charged the trojan horses into our building

Using commercial aviation as instruments of destruction
Pregnant women couldn't protect their children
Wheelchairs were stairway obstructions

Now I have to backpedal
From the shower of glass and metal...
Wondering how after it settles,
We'll find who provided power to radical rebels

The Melting Pot seems to be calling the kettle black when it boils over
But only on our own soil so the little boy holds a toy soldier
And waits for the suit and tie to come home,
We won't wait 'til he's older
before we destroy hopes for a colder war to end...
"Now get a close-up of his head"

Makeshift Patriot
The flag shop is out of stock
I hang myself at half-mast

"How does my hair look"

Makeshift Patriot
The flag shop is out of stock
I hang myself at half-mast

"Run that tape back"

Makeshift Patriot
The flag shop is out of stock
I hang myself at half-mast

"It looks just like a movie"

It's the Makeshift, The Patriot
The flag shop is out of stock
I hang myself ... While the stock markets crash.

The city is covered in inches of muck
I see some other pictures of victims are up
Grieving mothers are thinking their children are stuck
Leaping lovers are making decisions to jump
While holding hands ... To escape the brutal heat
Sometimes in groups of three
The fallout was far beyond the toxic couds where people look like debris.
But all they saw, after all was said...
Beyond the talking heads was the bloody dust with legs, looking like the walking dead calling for meds

But all the hospitals are overwhelmed
Volunteers need to go the hell home
Moments of silence for firefighters were interrupted by cell phones

Who's gonna make that call, to increase an unknown death toll?
It's the one we rally behind.
He's got a megaphone, and he's promising to make heads roll.
So we cheer him on, but asbestos is affecting our breath control
The less that we know, the more they fabricate
The easier it is to sell souls

"There is a new price on freedom,
so buy into it while supplies last.
Changes need to be made...
No more curbside baggage, Seven P.M. curfew
Racial profiling will continue with less *****ing.
We beautified over who to kill, so until I find more relevant scripture to quote, remember our god is...
Bigger, Stronger, Smarter, and much wealthier
so wave those flags with pride, especially the white part"

We sell an addictive 24 hour candlelight vigils in TV's
Freedom will be defended at the cost of civil liberties
The viewers are glued to television screens,
STUCK ... because lots of things seem too sick
I use opportunities to pluck heart strings for theme music

I'll show you which culture to pump your fist at
"Yeah"
Which foot is right to kiss
We don't really know who the culprit is yet
"Nah"
But he looks like this
We know who the heros are
They're not the xenophobes who act hard
"We taught that dog to squat
How dare he do that shit in our own backyard"

They happened to scar our finnancial state
And char our landscape
Can you count how many times so far I ran back the same damn tape
While the cameraman creates news and shoves it down our throats on the west bank
With a ten second clip put on constant loop to provoke US angst

So get your tanks,
And load your guns,
And hold your sons in a family huddle
'Cause even if we win this tug of war,
And even the score, humanity struggles
There's a desperate need of blood for what's been uncovered under the rubble
Some of them dug for answers in the mess, but the rest were looking for trouble

Makeshift Patriot

I hang myself at half-mast

Runaways by Sage Francis

It's time to rethink every fact that is imaginable.
Survival instinct dwells in a past that is inhabitable.
I happen to pull fast ones over the slow parole boards who like to speak,
To de-fanged wolves who cry sheep.

Time seeps into our skin. Age indicates how long we've been lost in space.
I keep putting expressionless looks on my face.
I'm an awful waste of human skin who waits for autumn to begin.
My fall from grace will do me in.
Too late...I'm out of seasoning.

No spring chicken summer romance novel writer could win a prize,
That's Nobel...go to hell in a writing vehicle that isn't winterized.
I've changed my mind more often than my undergarments about abortion and other nonsense
'Cuz I'm an orphan who comes from Providence

"I am a sign from God!", for the parentally misguided, and I know,
My state is not an ocean, not an island, not a road.
If I don't know where I come from then how do I know where to go?
It's not where you're from. Not where you're at. It's where you're going...and I am going home...

(And I know, my state is not an ocean, not an island, not a road.
If I don't know where I come from then how do I know where to go?
It's not where you're from. Not where you're at. It's where you're going...and I am going home)

"To where?" The land of the lost souls.
Feeling a loneliness that really only exists in abandoned foster homes.
How many images of missing kids can be fit onto a milk carton. Framed.
They're all starting to look the same.

They're starting to say his name and claim privileges as if they found HIM.
The strangest little kids surrounding,
The circle of false friendship rings of fire arms are connected at the elbow,
Because their tired moms unexpectedly let go.

The velcro-like component that keeps their unit cohesive,
Is the music...so we give,
Reasons to get sober. Life experiences to hum to.
These kids play Red Rover? I look for weaknesses to run through

With reckless abandon. They're standing and refuse to go down.
Pinballs in their machine bounce between abusive homes now.
If it's fight or flight they'll just choose to throw down.
Ain't nothing like beating a dead horse and riding it through a ghost town.

I move with no sound. Used to think I was invisible,
Until they stopped me mid-stride and said "I think I've seen a picture of you."
Picture that. I said, "Nah...I've just got one of those faces,
Placed next to an expiration date that changes."

I kind of look familiar. My name is on the tip of your tongue.
The lost look on my face makes you play dumb.
Say something colloquial. I need to get my bearings and a feel for where I'm at,
But you ain't hearing that.

They shout "FREEZE!" I'm a tourist trapped by townies/
Who put bounties out on me in all surrounding counties/
Before I bounce I hear them shout "Can someone help us out, please?/
We're all alone in the foster home killing ourselves with the house keys!"/

Not every broken home can come equipped with a fix-it-man,
And it's a smelly mess once the shit hits the fan.
Kids just stand in their Circle. Jerks with their ****s in the sand,
Saying, "**** the world!" 'Cuz they ain't got no girl, but who do they think I am?

Think again. I'm not that quick to plan ahead of time.
I'm two steps behind their schedule. They pretend to have read my mind.
I think they just misread the lines on the palm of my hand 'cause,
They're random scars caused from slap boxing with landlords.

I ran with the dogs until I realized they were all mutts,
Turn ***** once the dog catchers caught up.
Forced into trucks. Boarded up. Put to sleep in the pound.
Being an orphan sucks...but I'm sick of sneaking around.

I see my frown posted up on street lights and telephone poles.
From what they show it seems like I never get old.
From what they show it seems like I'll never go home.
And that doesn't seem right...because they won't let me grow.

This is where some go...
To avoid the sun rays and the noise of subways.
Emerging introverted, unemployed and unshaved.
I feel rewarded offering a finder's fee that I know no one will pay.

This is where some go...
To avoid the sun rays and the noise of subways.
Emerging introverted, unemployed and unshaved.
I've got multiple personalities and my inner children are runaways.

And I know
My state is not an ocean. Not an island. Not a road.
If I don't know where I come from how will I know where to go?
It's not where you're from. Not where you're at. It's where you're going.
And I am going home.

I feel sorry for any sap who denies that these verses are indeed poetry. I am sorry you guys are this.. slow? RAP is not poetry, half of the rappers don't even write their own songs. Many times, any one who writes verses over a looped beat is considered rap. Often, they rhyme about b-tches, hos, and guns. Many rappers really do sling legit material; Nas would be one street-credible rapper who REALLY does write art. 2Pac was a bit comercial, but he really sang how he felt. 50 Cent, on the other hand, did not.

Don't diss what you don't know.

Pathetic. Do you honestly wonder WHY rappers//hip-hoppers are so arrogant towards other genras of music?

In case you missed that jab, it was at you. You are being stereotypical AND the whole nine yards. Seriously, your post is total garbage. How educated do you think Ozzy and the Sabbath camp were? What about John Lennon and the Beatles? How about the guys from Pantera? No disrespect to ANY of them, but how many got college degrees? Yeah, you're most definitely a winner. I bet you think all rappers are criminals, too? Dream on.

You're a stereotypical as-shole. We all stereotype, but come on? Don't throw low blows. If the internet wasn't anonymous, someone would most definitely pull a Jay-and-Silent-Bob on you. Really damn quick.

All Music is an art form, And just because yo udont like it, Doesn't mean you shouldn't respect it. I like rap, Heck, I used to listen to snoop a heck of a lot. Personnally, I dont like Much metal, But i can see Where it comes from and i can see the feelings of the artists in the music, if they Can portray their feelings and opinions in the music, I can respect it.

You're right, I'm preaty sure they all dropped out because fo their bands. Look at the words and lyrics of some of their songs though. John Lennon's lyrics are like no other, you compare ANY 50-Cent song to ANY song writen by John Lennon. I'm preaty sure Lennon never used street talk. Look at some of these rappers out there, ever hear the song "Tipsy" by J-Kwon? He changed a 4 syllable word (everybody) and made it into a kind of grunt "erbody". Look at Lil' John, just look at him and tell me rap is poetry.

Why don't you actually read the two songs I posted? I agree 50, and most all mainstream rappers are jokes. Then, you have people like Sage Francis, Nas, 2Pac, and even to an extent, the older Dre and Snoop.. they write what they FEEL. How many 2Pac songs could you dismiss as being jokes? The drug ballods and diss tracks are all that come to mind. Those pale in comparison to the other songs he wrote. Oh wait, I guess you're one of those assholes who say Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds wasn't inspired by LSD? Sure, John's kid might have inspired the lyrics, but get real. The Beatles wrote some raunchy and/or controversial things, too. I mean, really, Strawberry Fields Forever? Do you think LSD use was considered OKAY when this was written? Not by the 'normal,' Americans of the time. Ironically enough, you're the 'normal American,' in this situation, and you act the same way towards Hiphop and Rap as the people back then did towards the Beatles obvious drug influence and comments like "We're bigger than Jesus Christ."

Beyond ALL of that shit, i'd so throw Sage Francis's music in the same boat as the Beatles. I'd throw Sage in with ANYONE. How many artists genuinely show that much emotion in their music? Any takers? Very few.

Come back and try again.

EDIT: Typos and mistakes, I don't feel like fixing my run-ons. They do exist, and I admit it, but I refuse to fix them.

When did this turn into an argument about rap, or hip hop, or whatever it's called these days? This was supposed to be about a couple of his songs, and what you think of them. Not who sucks and who doesn't. This thread is CLOSED.
