The news' biasness
#1
Does anybody else notice that all the news on TV reports anymore is places burning down, or people getting killed? What is wrong with society today that the only thing to get publicity is showing peoples family and friends dying on a daily basis? Even every once in a while they could plug in a slice of good news.

I want to know what other people think about these important shows caring only about ratings and not the community they report.

Here in northern Europe its the same, lately whatever channel I switch to there are prisoners getting tortured by American soldiers, a natural disaster or some psycho who killed he's family.

Maybe there just isn't any good news left in this world

It's called fear. The news wants you to be afraid so you buy more obsolete things to protect your self. Are you aware that in Canada most people don't even lock their doors at night? I've been through this, I live in a perfectly safe town but I was afraid to leave my front door open past 8.

We finns have always kept our doors locked, in my experience if you live close to other people it isnt safe. I would propably lock my door just out of habbit even if i lived 500miles from the nearest naighbour

one reason is that we are living in increasingly dangerous times
the other is just like you guys said. ratings. pure and simple. and even better if it's an ongoing story. people tune in for a whole week to find out what happens

edit: stuff even happens in my city which is probably the most suburban city on the west coast. just half a year ago, a guy was having sex with his baby girl in the same apartment complex i lived in about 4 years ago. kinda shattered our "pleasantville" image

Spikes, if you're getting news that American soldiers are the ones torturing others, then no wonder Europe disapproves of our actions. America doesn't do that, and unless you want to **** off a lot of people, don't use such terms so casually without some facts.

Sorry didn't mean to start anything, just used the 3 biggest headlines from current news. The news may not always be fact but yet it has allot of influence on people witch is bad in my opinion, hearing the news from both sides would be allot better but probably it still wouldn't be 100% accurate

Unless those Iraqi troops are really being assholes, what kind of reason would make you do something like that? Just because they are Iraqi doesn't mean shit. You still should abide by the innocent til guilty saying. I hate to sound like a little tree hugger, but i want to see some good news. Something that doesn't fall into stereotypes

pretty sad how america stands for equality but as soon as we are out of us territory we take advantage of people. especially the poor people detained down somewhere around puerto rico

Agreed, Cougar. And all we get on the news here is rape, Iraq, and diets.

The country can't be held responsible for the actions of a few. But atleast we don't gas or slaughter small villages.

No, i agree it has been worse in the past, like foog said. But those things don't happen on a daily basis and ostricize the whole human race. People remember that those were a few people, this is everyday shit i'm complaining about.

the actions of a few? the people detained now are detained by the US government. it is the FBI, the CIA, the police detaining innocent people on the suspicion of being affiliated with terrorist groups

the girls were not detained by a few soldiers looking to vent. they were detained and imprisoned with no definite time under the authority of the united states government. this is the unamerican side of america. how is it possible that a threat can be assessed from an essay that even asserts that suicide is against islamic law? how is it possible that a person can be arrested for being the friend of an accused terrorist that has no evidence against her? it is absolutely disgusting that this can happen in this day and age

Pyro, I don't know what you adressed as something that happens on an 'every day basis', the gassing of villages or our torture of foreign soldiers, I'm supposing because of your ignorance, you mean the former. They don't gas villages every day, but the Sunni Iraqis did hold public executions of Kurds, mostly, and maybe some Shi'ites, as well as the testing of chemical weapons on humans, which we all know about.

And so the FBi and CIA is everyone? We should be judged by their actions? If so then we should all be held responsible for things like the Bay of Pigs right? And that disgusts you? Go live in a country where kids carry around AK-47s and come back here and *****.

our nation is only as great as the government we boast. what does the world see us as if our own government ignores its own laws to wrongly persecute its own citizens?

and yes, i would rather live in a country where i can freely defend myself against threats rather than be opressed without any chance of reprisal
