GSC's Pure Lightning Sorceress
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This guide was wrote my GSC from DiabloRealm.net. all credits goes to him.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lightning sorceresses have often been overlooked in 1.1, where everyone favors their fiery and freezing counterparts. With the emergence of 1.1, lightning sorceresses have also fallen to of favor due to the cheapest item of all time – Thundergods’s Vigor
.
They however, can hold their own effectively in both PVP and PVM, assuming no absorb is allowed in duelling games. Lightning sorceress are blessed with a high amount of max damage due to their lightning mastery and are unpredictable in the sense that the high damaging lightning spells have very low minimum damage. Also, since they will have 10x lightning gcs, they will have a very low mana cost for teleporting and a high static. This is always very helpful.
Statistics
Before I start telling you on what stats you should distribute, lets take a look at the comparision between More Dexterity or More Vitality.
More Dexterity would be better for PVP. 75 % Chance to block any physical attack is very useful.
However, in PVM, elemental missiles are more common, and as a sorceress, most likely you will avoid physical hand to hand combat, having more life is better.
Note: If you go dexterity expect to have a VERY low life, often killed in PVM. Therefore, you have to decide right from the start: Do I want this make this character for PVP or PVM? Make your decision, and follow as shown:
PVM vitality tank
Strength: Enough to wear heaviest item
Dexterity: Base
Vitality: Everything else here
Energy: 75
PVP Blocking
Strength: With items, 156 to equip SS
Dexterity: 205 (Dexterity needed for SS max block at level 85, assuming you will not be leveling after 85)
Vitality: Everything else here (Expect it to be low though
Energy: 50
Skills
Charged Bolt: 20 points
This is quite a awesome spell when maxed with synergies, capable of doing 650 damage per bolt. However, it only shiens when you are close up with the enemies… trust me… it takes down monsters extremely fast, and if the target is big, like a act boss, gl hf for him .
Lightning: 20 points
This is the spell you’ll be using to clear narrow corridors and stuff, and definitely your PVP killer spell.
Chain Lightning: 20 points
You do know that in PVM, you are going to use this spell most often for crowds. It works wonder on crowds against non lightning immunes.
Lightning Mastery: 20 points
No explaination needed
Static Field: 1 point
Very nice against bosses.
Teleport: 1 point
Thudnerstorm: 1 point. All your lightning skill gsc and + to skills will ensure this hits over a thousand damage, and DO NOT put more than one point as increment is low (no synergies)
(edit by Neon401: I guess you put the rest into Nova, since its a synergy, but i dont really know, do what you want)
Equipment
Helm: Griffon’s Eye Lightning Faceted
Nothing beats this helm. +1 to skills, 25 FCR, target enemy’s lightning resistance, awesome (of course we know since the % to skill damage acts with lightning mastery, making it almost useless, so -% enemy resistance is better than % skill damage in this case).
Alternatives:
Harlequin’s Crest Shako Lightning Faceted
Kira’s Guardian.
Cheap Alternatives:
Peasant Hat
Lore Runeword Helm
Armor: Skin of the Vipermagi Serpentskin Armor with Lightning Facet
Awesome Armor. Nothing beats this. Awesome FCR and resists, with a +1 to skill gravy, what more could you look for in an armor? PLUS, it is extremely cheap! Couple this with Escuta’s Temper and Arachnid’s You’ll get an Easy 90 FCR , breaking 13 fps for lightning and 9 fps for normal casting spells. 13 fps is pretty decent in my opinion, and since the next casting rate is 117 FCR, I personally feel it is not worth it.
Alternative: Chains of Honor
Shield: Sanctuary Troll Nest
Alternatives:
Spirit Monarch
Rhyme
Weapon: Escuta’s Temper Lightning Faceted (GET HOTO IF you can afford)
As I said, the point of Escuta’s temper is not the + to lightning skill damage, as everyone knows they act on the same time with mastery, making the increment insignificant. It is the awesome 40 FCR. Heart of the Oak could be used, in fact I think HOTO is more superior than this due to its resists but this is a more realistic option. HOTO is still better though, get it if you can.
Amulet: Mara’s Kaleidoscope
Huge resists, +2 to skills. Other cheap options are Eye of Elitich, +3 to lightning skill amulet etc.
Alternative: 3+ lite skills amulet.
Rings: 2 X SOJS
Ohh…. The mana!
Gloves: Bloodfists
No magefists. Yes you are reading me correctly. 13 fps is perfectly fine for a lightning sorceress, why would we want to get magefists, which brings us up to 110 FCR but still fail the meet the 117 FCR bp for lightning? Sorry guys, lightning sorceresses have a different FCR table from the normal sorceresss… you just can’t assume every spell has the same casting frame >_>.
Another alternative is Frostburns, but I like FHR. Gives me more time to recover from attacks.
Belt: Arachnid’s Mesh
+1 to skills, FCR. No explaination needed.
Boots: Silkweaves
Nice Mana.
Mercenary
Hire a Act2 NM defensive mercenary if you are too poor to afford DOOM eth poleaxe for its holy freeze aura. If you can afford DOOM, go for a might act2 offensive NM mercenary… They give both might and holy freeze then.. Go with gaze and shaft…
Duelling
Amazons
Charged Strike Javazons: Not good. All of them (unless the zon is a ******) have thundergod’s vigor on. You, too must wear thundergods if you want to stand a chance. Do your best, keep teleport and spamming lightning
Bowazons: Awww… crap. All depends on your teleporting skill here. Beware of Guided Arrow 3-4 Arrows can easily bring you down. DO NOT, let the amazon figure out your teleporting pattern, because it is in their handbook against lightning sorceresses (“ Try to anticipate a sorceresses’s teleporting patterns). Instead, teleport randomly and unpredictability. Throw them in confusion ^.^
Assassin :
MA ASN: Haven’t dueled one yet with my lightning =/
Trapist: You must wear T gods in this match up. If they get mind blast on you, sigh… most likely you’ll lose. Your FHR might save you, but seriously, I haven’t got a counter against trapists who stack lightning resists yet. Their mind blast is simply too great.
WW Assasin: Do not let her hit you or OW wuill trigger. Spam lightning while she’s in mid teleport ^^
WW Barbarian: Be very careful. This is a character designed to take hits, and unfortunately, this is the best counter to a fire or lightning sorceress, even a fully charged up bone necro. Treat them with respect and uhh, do nto move when they start to hit you or your block will nto stand a chance. Moving cuts 2/3 your chance to block and WW gets more hits in.
Elemental Wind Druid: Impossible for you to beat if they keep recasting cyclone armor they just don’t take any damage. Please ask them not to recast it or you’ll never stand a chance =/
Fire Druid: Haven’t dueled yet with this sorc.
Bone Necromancer: Teleport to him as fast as possible, avoid the sprits and hope not to die. Sorry, this just isn’t your cup of tea.
Poison necromancer: Use Death’s Hand and Iratha’s Amulet with Max Poison Resistance. You should be fine.
Smite: The FHR kicks in here. Remember do not let anyone antipate your teleporting pattern.
Fist of Heavens: use a 4 p topaz shield and Thundergods Vigor for this match up or you are a fried lightning sorceress.
Charge: When you see them charging in a straight line, cast lightning right through them and run away…
Sorceress:
Cold Sorceress: Truly the hardest class to beat… its Blizzard synergised sorceresses is a Nightmare for melee characters and its Frozen Orb counterpart is a nightmare for teleporting fellow casters. Use 4 P saphhire Shield and Snowclash for this match up. Blizzard is less dangerous than the old school FO sorceress, ironically, for you.
Fire Sorceress: Your thunderstorm gives you an edge over them, but do not be an *** to face their fireballs. Dodge them, or you are toast.
Melee Sorceress: Pfft! Get near them, Charged Bolt, its over =/
