Emulators..?

Okay, I need to know exactly what an Emulator is, where to get one, and how to play games on it. I've heard of emulators that can emulate GC, various versions of the GB, and even games from the arcade.

emulators act as if your comp was a big ass gameboy... with out them you couldent lay them cuz of the parts the gameboy uses

Ohh, so that is what 'ROMs' are. I had downloaded one before but couldn't figure out what to download to play the games.
