In windows explorer goto Tools > Folder Options > View > and then un-check the box that says "Hide file extensions for known file types"..
Now the file that you renamed will be whatever.type.. rename it to whatever.d2s or what it was originally.. then you can go back to the folder options and tick that box again.

thx spitfire it worked but i still have a problem. there was a cd key refiller i dled from here a while back and it worked fine but i didnt find a cd key to use refilled it with. now i got one but i alredy screwd up the file that came with the refiller and everytime i click on refill expansion cd key it comes to a screen that tells me to install into a directory(like when you acutally install d2) and when i do nothing happens. the screen that is "supposed" to show up so you can refill the key never shows up anymore. kinda odd is there a way i can fix this
