Not sure if this is the right area to ask this or not but the site/forums, is it a custom setup or a program like phpnuke or phpbb? I only ask cause I would like to set up a site about local bands and would like to setup something similar if I can get the help of the bands. If the info is secret/classified I'll understand. Or any one who knows of a decent program/template/hosting service would offer something like it.

The site is custom. A bunch of php scripts are used like fusion news, sympoll etc etc and the forums are powered by Vbulletin ($160 but well worth it).
As for phpnuke stay away from it. Its a resource hog and has a load of useless features you'll never use. mmm phpBB where to start lol. I'll just say one of the worst forum systems out there if your serious about your site! HUGE LACK OF FEATURES :p

Yea, I found the link at the bottom for VBulletin. It works awesome based on what I've seen on this site, just its pricey. If I do go that direction, I'm gonna have to wait a bit for more funds to come my way unfortunatly this is gonna be all outta my pocket and I'm just a poor college kid lol. I saw the "lease" option but if the site lasts for more then 2 years, I would be better off getting the full liscense. I'm gonna keep lookin but seems like VB has the best offer/feaures.
Thanks again guys.

I have used allot of different systems over the years and I'm currently using a few different scripts on different sites.
VB is nice if you don't like to code your own features etc coz it pretty mush all there and updating to newer versions is rather painless. Phpbb is the best one out there for those who just want something to base their own systems on. As for php-nuke well its been a long time since I used it but at least back then there were some bugs and in general I got a bad first impression.
Then there are also several phpbb based preset portal packages, some are rather nice and have most features a normal site/community needs.
Only thing with some of these portals, it might be a bit of a pain to update when phpbb releases a security update.
Its mostly a matter of what you want need and how much of it you can do yourselfe

I also went lookin at other portal types besides phpnuke n found something called mambo that seems decent. Ne thoughts on mambo? or ne other portal type software? I played w/ phpnuke n phpbb that are on a friends site. They came w/ the hosting package preinstalled but he doesn't use them so he let me mess around. They seem..... ok, lil hard to understand how to use phpnuke cause i tried creating a normal user on it and it just kinda seemed to mess up. who know...
