Whats is a tanker?

Hello,
I have heard that tankers are a very good charecter build from lots of random people on b.net, But i dont even know what a tanker is if u could tell me or direct me to a guide om making one would be much apreciated.

A tanker is a type of character with extremely high defense+resistances and quite high HP as well, making them very difficult to kill, and while they aren't exactly the most powerful in terms of damage, they can get the job done before they get hurt.

Paladin's that rely on the Defiance aura and Holy Shield aura make very good tankers, as do Concentrate Barbs and Bear Druids. I had a Pally once and he had almost 40k def, and he didnt really carry any godly gear or anything.

you see- the idea is to make your character as much like a TANK as possible. really well armored, very resistant to all types of attacks. usually, though, with a caster character (i.e. sorc or hammerdin, etc.) you want your MERC to be a tank, to hold off your enemies, while you cast your spells safely.
