While serving in ASIA and visiting many Internet Cafes..from playing and exploring the Gaming Culture and experience overseas--it's extremely a sad time for gamers here at home.
One besides playing our beloved D2 series, and Guild Wars where online is "free"--some analogies and examples--
City of Heroes--$49 for game, online fees
WOW--same..even though an awesome online exp
City of Villains--repetetive (see all above..lol)
Constant lag,..even on DSL/Cable..to have a better secure connection with less dropped games--lol..purchase a server,..hey upgrade to a 5,6 meg modem--NOT
Why don't these MMO's offer a Single player campaign??
My 2 cents--it's all about the $..anything after $50 on a game to play online monthly is a scam, waste,..and a shame--isn't it enough that we are being robbed of gas prices?
If I have offended the next generation with my comments--forgive,..but as a gamer..definately not fair to the consumers!

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say but the US telecommunications infrastructure is dated in comparison to the ones in Asia. There is no point in having a singel player experience in a multi player oriented game because that would waist development time and would be left in the dark by bost gamers anyway. I don't know how much internet costs in the US but a 8 megabit connection is damn cheap in the UK, 24 megabit connections cost £24 over here.

Why the do you care? Is it your money? No. Get out of people's business. They pay because they want to. No ones holding a gun to their head to buy the game and pay monthly for it.

How is that retarded? To enjoy a multiplayer experience that requires central servers for the players to play on you need money to pay for the hardware, connection, maintenance and so on. The difference between Guild Wars and WoW is that the latter is always updated with new content and that's where most of the money goes also since debaitably WoW is the best multiplayer game at the moment they can ask for more money since there is no serious competition.

i'll play cs and other HL mods before i pay a monthly fee. i'm with jedi on this if i'm gonna pay 50 bucks for a fuggin game i want to be able to play it whenever the hell i want. they've never had problems in the past funding their Multiplayer servers. ok sure games these days require alot more storeage space and more ballsy computers to run them, but damn the prices they charge per month are still pretty high. u gotta ask yourself how much money does it cost to run that stuff compared to the money they're bringing in. If 100,000 people bought WoW when it came out then thats an average of 54.95 per copy times 100k bam they just made 5.5 million bucks. and i'm not sure exactly how much it is per month to play WoW but i know you can buy little cards at hastings that are like 30 bucks for 2 months so 15 a month times 100k there's another 1.5 million a month times 12 months thats 18 million dollars a year plus the 5.5 thats 23.5 million a year if 100k people play the game for a year.
i guarantee you the first thing they look at at the end of the month is their bank account not their server quality.

I would never pay monthly for a game either but that's just my opinion, there are 4.5 million who pay for WoW plus all the other people who play for various other games. I also mentioned that WoW is debaitably the best multiplayer game there is therefore Blizz can ask as much money as they want within reason and people will still pay.

holy cow 4.5 million people actually play that game? well then lets do a little realistic calculating. thats 247,275,000 million dollars just in game sales. plus 810,000,000 million a year in subscriptions. thats over a billion dollars a year? thats rediculous... i mean sure if i was head of blizzard entertainment i'd just sit in my office all day and laugh and then have my servent's servents bring me in a million 1 dollar bills just so i can roll around in it.
but still rediculous.

If you compare WoW suscription to TV suscription which can cost around the same amount as WoW then actually paying for WoW is cheaper per hour than TV since the avarage time online is more than the avarage time in front of the TV. People I know who play WoW don't watch any TV any more.

actually thats where your wrong because most basic cable costs around 20 bucks a month. whereas WoW costs 15 a month PLUS internet fees. its 40 a month here for cable internet so thats 55 bucks a month just to play the game every month which is like buying the game brand new every month. i'd rather pay that 20 bucks for tv so i can watch my adult swim and comedy central now and then.

In the UK the minimum price to watch telly is £15 a month, 2 megabit broadband is around £10 and WoW costs £7.69 so no I'm not immediately wrong. $40 for broadband? You don't need a damn fast one, for $41 in the UK you can get a 24 megabit connection.

i can't live with anything less than cable. with all the downloading i do be it music, game mods, other things... i'll never go back to dial up or anything that goes through a phone line. its a little different over here in the states you either have dial up 56k (i keep hearing about these high speed dial up connections but its still not fast...) dsl, or cable. i have a friend with DSL and her internet is as slow as my old dial up connection. cable is always there, no connecting, very few interruptions, fast, and you don't have to install special lines to use it.

What kind of speeds are you talking about? IMO 2 megabit ADSL is descent for downloading music.
The mentioned 24 megabit connection goes through a phone line. 24 megabits = 3 megabytes per sec. That's almost like a song per second.

see we don't get those kind of connections here. my cable downloads at 256kbps and its 40 a month. there aren't any reliable DSL connections here, and as far as i know they don't offer the 24 megabit for personal use. we use T1 here at work and they pay out the *** for it. internet must just be cheap overseas... i need to move to europe.
