Dual Video Cards?

Ok this is something i don't quite fully understand. if anyone would care to explain why you would have 2 identical video cards in your system i would appreciate it.

Its cuz the two cards can work as one card, they can handle alot more grafic.

so even if you only have your monitor hooked to one card the computer uses both card's resources?

ok so lets say i'm using a Nvidia GeForce 6200 OC that produces 281 million triangles per second, does that mean with two cards i get 561 million triangles per second? and 512mb of ram usage instead of just 256?

The cards connect to eachother using a single dongle. For Nvidia you'd have to have a motherboard with SLI technology and for ATI you'd need one with Crossfire. It's really meant for people with dual monitor systems that are going to be pushing their computers alot.

I have dual 256 video cards and I'm loving it like pizza.

i'll stick with my 3 256's with a triple dongle. dual is good but make sure you got the space for it. if its radeon, get a new fan. the stock one isnt too good plus it may not cover the full area. Nvidia is good to start with you can change the fan if you want plus you can d/l a plugin to go with the nvidia program that will allow you to manually o-c the cards.
