keylog question

everyone talks about ppl getting keylog from fake hacks and crap...well i have a question, if ur antivirus cant detect a keylog, ur firewall should certainly alarm u that a program is trying to access the internet...i have norton internet security, and i just wanna know if a firewall can detect a keylog trying to access the internet...the reason it would access the internet is bcoz once ur keys r saved, they have to be actually SENT to the hacker, which requires internet...
