Old PC games you loved and lost
#1
I've kinda calmed down on gaming (don't have the money or interest to dump into a beefier machine) over the past five years, and found I had a big relapse in old gaming. I was digging through demo discs and old old programs and found a few jewels that I wasted countless hours on!

The Rocket Jockey Demo .. An odd game where you straddle what looks like a rocket with a saddle and have grappling hooks that fire off the sides at a 45 degree angle. You used those to turn corners (without them the rockets cornered very poorly) and you could also grapple onto other rockets, or even the jockeys! I wasted hours and hours snatching jockey's off their rockets and tying them to poles, and then mercilessly ramming them with your rocket..

KKnD stands for Krush Kill N' Destroy.. A C&C spinoff which pitted post-apocalyptic suvivor mutants against normal humans. Had a certian charm about it, complete with poor acting in the inbetween mission briefings.

Carmageddon & Carmageddon 2 .. man these games were fun, I fired up Carma2 last night and had a blast. Ramming other cars, running over pedestrians, general meyham. The funnest feature was the ability to rewind and replay your most recent pedestrian kill.

Unfortunately none of these games were working on XP so I had to fire up the ol' non-SE Win98 with a P900 and a voodoo3 PCI card (quite the machine back in the day).

Anyways anybody else have some fond PC titles they find themselves going back to time after time? And don't say Diablo 2.

star wars galatic battlegrounds clone campaigns is about 5 or more years old...but if thats not old enough for u, then i would have to say star trek armada 1, which is from 98 or 99, if u want EVEN older then i'll go with sim theme park. if u want older, too bad
(all of these i still play pretty much on a daily basis)

lol, the rocket jockey game I mentioned was probably around 97-98'.

I forgot to mention Total Annihilation! I liked it's massive scale and it was the first RTS game to use a 3-D engine (i think). Tanks, kbots, airplanes, navy... Intercontinental nukes, and artillery that could fire halfway across the map...

I played a lot of theme hospital also, had a goofy sort of charm about it.

Jet Pack Stan...god that was a fun and highly addictive game.

Hugo of the Jungle.

Raptor...I never was able to find the full version of this game but the demo version I had kicked MAJOR ass.

Anyone remember the old Duke Nukem side-scrollers? Those were the days.

Oh, and Triads... Not a very popular game, I don't think, but had some really kickass guns.

The first game I ever played was Doom II, and it has still charmed me ever since. Even though it was more than 10 years ago. I still play it occasionally. Tool, I'll see if I can find you a download link, I believe that I should still have a copy lieing around somewhere.

I wasn't really a fan of KKND. I thought that Red Alert was much better. Also, does anyone remember Dune I and II? Those were pretty kickass.

Now there is one game that I am still playing at the moment. It's from 1996, and it's called the Pandora Directive. In my opinion, it's the best Action adventure game EVER MADE. If anyone is interested, read up on it. I doubt that I could share it though, because it's 6 cds... And I think that I banned it in the U.S. Also, there are more games of that series, such as "Under a killing moon". I recommend those 100%.

Oh and some games that haven't been mentioned yet: Monkey Island 1 and 2.

haha, good topic here. alright lately my friend has gotten back into playing a game called heavygear. I actually played the old marios... ohhhh man, fun. and I'd love to find an emulator for donkey kong world. ummm, counterstrike... old game that's been renewed until it's not all that good anymore. I'm actually just gettin in to all the new games, cause im used to playing games from the late 90's, including starcraft and diablo2 and Counterstrike, I played all of those when I was ten or eleven, which was a long time ago for me.

the sims, how old is that? I just remember hearing of it from my cousins years ago. MEG MAN LEGENDS DUDE! hellz yes, that game is one of those weird games you played when you were a kid... and you liked, but if you played it now you would despise it. That game was the weirdest game i've ever played. hmmmmmm, Chrono chross, I bought that game and tried to play it recently, but gayly... it was broken and i had to take it back. that game is worth like 50$ now. Warcraft 2 of course was one of my favorites when I went to my dad's house on the weekends and couldn't talk cause his girlfriend was always sleeping, so I'd play warcraft 2 on the 133mhz computer Smile fun.

edit: ohhh yeah, about command and conquerer... I still have every copy there is, my dad bought all the expansion packs, and i already had the original. Man.... my dad just got into these games last year.... I need to teach him about video games. i mean.. it's a great game and all, but i keep trying to tell him.. starcraft is better Smile
