Ok I know blah blah connection problem, before you say I never searched for what the problem was.
I reformatted last night looking because my modem was acting up, when I finally got everything up and running again, I had to connect my dsl directly to my computer, I have no firewall, no router, nothing that could possibly be blocking diablo 2 from running.
When I try to cnnect to d2 it stays at checking for fastest server, for about 10 minutes then it comes up with the unable to connect go to blizz for help.
Ive tried everything:
Restarting, Reinstalling, Repatching, Checking if other programs work. Nothins is working.
The last time I was on was around 8am, it is now 8:58pm.
I cannot connect to any servers. And I have never used a 3rdparty program with d2 running ever.

go to start>>run
type in "regedit"
open HKEY_CURRENT_USER
open "Software"
find "Battle.Net"
Rightclick on it and Delete.
Then close all tabs up again and open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
open "Software"
find "Battle.Net"
Rightclick on it and Delete.
Restart your computer and it should work

Call your ISP and ask if your modem has a router mode. There is a good chance it does and is in it (they can also change it to bridge mode, it is often only needed if you run a router), but there is a very slim chance that it is blocking BattleNet. I really cannot think of any other thing it could be... I'll sleep on it and get back to you.

for me i do run > cmd > ipconfig
then theres a connection specific DNS Suffix. its usually a website and you type taht into your web browser. ifyou get this far disable any firewall or set it to dmzplus mode
