Please insert expansion disk???

Ok well I have been playing d2 for a long while now, but on a really crappy computer. I just recently (by recent I mean 1 week ago) bought a new computer from dell. I installed d2 on it but when I go to open the game it says "Please insert the CD labeled Expansion Disk." Wtf? The cd is in the fricken cd-rom drive. lol. I only got one drive too...I don't have a double-layered cd rom combo for burning dvds and crap, so I know that isnt it. I might try dl the blizz updater and uploading 1.11 b4 i try the game again, but what if that doesnt work? Then what? I checked the bnet support site about this and it said like 12 different possibilities for why this might happen, and like only 2 of them apply to me. What should I do? I know the game disk is perfectly fine it runs just fine on my old computer.

Well, if you can't get the CD to work (yet you can still open it through the 'My Computer' directory) then I'd just set it up to run without the CD.

You'll need to get d2loader, and the do the following;

To Run Diablo II Without The CD

1 Put the Diablo LoD CD into your CD-ROM (the one you need in the CD drive to play)

2 In My Computer, right click on the CD and select open.

3 Copy the d2xvideo.mpq and d2xmusic.mpq, paste them in your Diablo2 folder.

If the disk wasnt clean or was scratched, I wouldn't have been able to install it perfectly fine lol.

I got it to work tho...I guess the blizz update is all i had to do and it worked perfectly fine now. Thnx a lot for your help anyways, AlmostDeadly.

Even though it worked I have had the same problem in the past...I would assume that your new computer came with a new cd drive so the drive being old isn't the problem. Sometimes this happens with my WC3 cd too but it goes away after a couple retrys. Just make sure it's clean *run it under water* and wipe it off. Should be fine I don't see why it wouldnt' work after that but meh.
