ok well i have to reformat my computer so i need to know if i need a few things. i can't find my product cd key and i can't find my driver installation cd. so will i need to buy a new windows cd package thing? i heard they're a lot of money too. is there any way to retreive the product key from my computer like in properties or whatever. and can i borrow the driver installation cd from a friend?

If I remember correctly, your product key is not stored in it's original state anywhere on the computer.. but it's encyrpted.

There are programs that do this, such as the free Magical Jellybean Keyfinder. After downloading simply unzip and then run the keyfinder.exe. It is not that badly encrypted, it's just in the registry.

keyfinder works with Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Server 2003 and Microsoft Office 97 and XP

You should have your product key on your tower somewhere. (if its not on the outside look inside the tower)
