external ed other than aura doesnt increase smite damage.
look i tested the fort myself, at first, i too thought it added dmg, but then i realised it didnt.
what did i do to test it? simple.
.take out ALL crushin blow + open wounds from ur gear
.equip fortitude + ur other gear
. go to anywhere where u can find a monster
. find a monster and hit him ONCE with fort on
. make sure the monster doesnt die and can survive at least 1-2 hits (i suggest removing ur grief, or else they die too fast)
.hit the same monster ONCE more and look at the difference between first and second hit
.ITS NOT OVER YET! do this to more than one monster, try to do it for like, 10 monsters for example.
tada.
i tested this in 1.11a =/ ON BATTLE.NET and i was not using any mods whatsoever, not that it would matter
smite is not like a normal attack, thats what u people dont understand... its a godamn spell, ur using a freakin shield to hit ffs!
and i dont see what the LCS has to with this, since the extra ed from fort is shown when using any other skill, unlike +dmg from grief, which is never shown
not to mention coh has 8% dr that u need to get 50%...

well, if you tested it, then i guess it doesnt add it to smite, but it does add to every other melee. and really i was just pointing out that the char screen lies, since your question didnt specifically say smite

wait im sry i forgot to mention smite. BUT you havnt tested this out on PVP i tried it on pvp with my friend. I hit him once with smite with coh then asked him his hp and then i hit him again with fort. i tried this 3 times and fort was consistantly doing more damage then coh. that was my testing. any views on that?

yes i have definately confirmed it(without crushing blow or wounds).
When i attacked with my coh my opponent hp consistantly lowered to ~1435.
when i attacked with fort my opponent hp consistantly lowered to ~1225.
calculating the 1/6 damage for pvp. the difference of 200 would be an increase of 1k of damage. Making the fort ed DOES add damage.
Unless you guys can tell me that some other sort of mod in fort was in play =/ ive tried this a total of six times attacking my friend. =D

As far as I am concerned, the damage added by Fort is added on top of the ed% of your Fanatiscm. So let's say:
Shield damage 70
Grief damage 400 (nice round number)
Level 20 Fanatiscm adds 373%ed.
As you have +skills items, let's say that it adds 400%ed at around ~lvl25 or so.
So you calculate (400+70)x(400/100) = 1880
Now if you add in the 200%ed from Fortitude, you will get:
(400+70)x[(400+200)/100] = 2820
Looking at it like this, my numbers seem quite high but I have not added in the damage gaps, bonuses from skills like Holy Shield and Smite, other sources of ed%, etc. This is not a 100% correct calculation, but this is approximately the method how bnet calculates damage.
