problem with my cd/dvd drive

i just bought this computer today and already discovering problems.

my god damn cd drive is ****ed up.

i am trying to install diablo 2 expansion, i installed the classic diablo 2 but with problems. i inserted the discs as asked. then my cd drive would stop spinning and i'd have to reopen drive to get it to spin again. i got through the classic installation but, now that i am trying to get the expansion to install, nothing is working. It goes to the d2xmusic.mpq file or w/e and then it gets to 5 bars on the bottom and 2 on the top and the cd drive just stops spinning. i've uninstalled and reinstalled the cd drivers and to no availe. the opening and closing of the cd drive to get it to spin isn't working either. anyone know what's going on? i'm currently downloading the d2 play disc as that is the only alternative i can think of to install the game. (the expansion was downloaded also but i have the classic discs.)

Some new dvd/cd drives have jumpers on the back. if yours does, you need to specify that ur cd-rom drive is slave so it doesnt conflict with the hd. Can u plz give more info, like OS, processor, cd-rom maker, etc.

check the connections on the computer and cd drive. they might be loose, if not, you can have the company get you another drive for it... if your drive was stable enough, you could save the images onto the computer using alcohol or some other product and run the images instead of the cd drive.
