Looking for a new laptop
#1
Well, I'm in the process of looking for a new laptop for school. I want you know the basics, which isn't too expensive, but I also want it to be able to play FFXI or some other MMO. I'm tired of EQ, didn't like WoW, never played FFXI, and I love D2. If anyone can suggest a good laptop, that has a low price, like 1k-2k, that would be great!! Also, if I'm missing any good MMO's out there, please list them.

My friend was recently looking for one too and found this one click here

Just click on his first post where it say click here and it will take you to the laptop you can also read the other post under it and see what the member say about it. Hope this helps. It should play just about any game it has a intergrated graphics card but you might be able to upgrade that option.

I perfer dells those are pretty awesome I have a dell xps 700.

While that is a good deal on the laptop and the specs seem fairly decent, would rather not have integrated graphics. Would really like to have an actual card in there. I saw one on http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/r05/ri05.asp starting at 974$ roughly but it starts off as a 128 GC, and I upgraded it to my standards and got it at about $1152.00, now looking at payments monthly, that's about 50-60$ a month which isn't bad at all.

Hmm doesn't look to bad. Wait a few minutes let me find this catalog. It has some awesome gaming latops in it that were not to bad of a price. Let me see if I can find it and post a link to the website.

Not sure what you want to spend for money but one of the best brands is alienwareclick here they actually have a decent one at 999$ starting. And you will love the duo core. with duo core you can run so much stuff and never slow down.

I usually have 5 site open, xfire, teamspeak, and run counterstrike with awesome fps.

Dell also droped a new laptop but I am sure its a pretty penny check it out

I like alienware, but they tend to be overpriced for what they usually are. Dell's are great laptops, and I've never had an issue when I worked with either a laptop or desktop, but they again, tend to overprice their merchandise. I appreciate the links and will research them, until I can find a suitable laptop, Diablo 2 is where I'll be it looks like.

Dell Sony and HP have never upset me, Dell\Sony overpriced but HP not quite as good offering in hardware. As for the model you want for each company that depends on what your looking for + your budget.

Budget is about 1-2k no more than 2k, decent motherboard, perfer AMD, 60-80 gig harddrive, no need anything bigger I think, standard sound, wireless card I need that badly for school, decent 64-128 graphics card, 1 gig ram *not 2 512's* pretty standard.

Try and find a Dell in your price range. I got a $4,000 one a couple of months back and cant fault it. The screen had a few pixels go, rang Dell and they sent someone to my house to replace it no questions asked and i live 2hrs away from the city where they are.

I'm pretty sure they have the Core 2 Duo now as well which is the best mobile CPU out atm.

Dammit where is Tool when you need him. I believe he went off last week or so about Alienware computers being bought out by Apple/Mac division. If thats true then wouldnt the integrity of the computers shortly go downhill? From what i read on that "Steamroom" Article pretty much not one person favored an Apple product.. So just an idea. Also i think Dell has worked really hard to push their XPS Line, so maybe you can configure something in your price range on that platform. Anyhow goodluck with your future purchase.

I have the 9400 same as the XPS with the 17" widescreen.
If your like me and want more of a business looking comp not some thing with glowing crap everywhere that doesn't achieve anything other than extra battery usage, the 9400 is exactly the same and can be optioned up to the same specs as the XPS. Thats what I chose to do and i think it works out cheaper, just. Thats on the AU site though, not sure about USA.

Make sure you go the Core 2 Duo though.

Actually I asked around and heard exactly that. Although I would like to think that Alienware would not become appleware and vise versa. I think they would keep the product brand name and quality the same. Like Coke buying out RC Cola, Sprite, Mr. Pibb, etc, etc.... They might own them now, but they stayed the same and tasted the same. mmmm soda...

Did you have to pay for warranty?

I'd say go for hp over dell.
