Well, my brother got on my computer and being the dumb**** he is, he downloaded this gook mod and the guy who made it said, open this and it will get the images onto the gmod, so he did, and it's a keylogger. I use AVG free, and I try to heal it, doesn't work, I try to move to vault, but it still loads on my computer whenever I start up. If this would help, the path AVG free says it is is

Hijack this doesn't seem to show it. The virus is an exe, as shown in my first post and I did not see a single exe in the hijackthis list.

restart your computer in safe mode. assuming that you are running xp, go into safe mode by repeadly pressing F8. then follow the instructions there. once in safe mode, scan your computer and delete it. safe mode is the only way to take it out. also, it would be a good idea to use multiple virus scanners on it, as AVG may not catch everything.

Just another note, whenever I run a scan in normal non safe mode, it freezes. Will it freeze in safe mode?

no. i dont think it will. safe mode turns off everything except for the essentials to run in xp. so boot it up in safe mode

I do not think that it should freeze in Safe Mode because that mode only uses a minimal amount of processes to run your system so if it is the virus causing the freezing it should probably not run. This is like the same reason why it's best to defrag in Safe Mode because you don't have a whole lot going on while the scan is running.

If a scan ultimitley don't catch it, send me a HiJackThis log and I will tell you what to fix. I used to do a lot of HJT forum helping for GeeksToGo Forums (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR PEOPLE WITH COMPUTER ISSUES)
PM or reply here... if AVG does not catch it that is.

if it still pops up. get superadblocker. rightclick its icon and set it to scan for spyware,etc. and it will find it and remove it. theres another virus out called vssms.exe that changes into idapi.dll and a few others and superadblocker will remove those as well.

trayne, may I have a link to that? It's not a ad, it's a ms-dos thing that pops up, closes and that starts the key logger.

I have it on the computers my family uses since they arent smart about viruses. You can set it to scan each week and it will keep things clean. Let me know if you need a key. I bought too many over the phone and have like 5 keys left. just private message me or something.

last time i had a HiJackThis log, the whole thread had a problem and wouldn't open. i recommend sending it through an emial because it might not work on the forum.

I got it, PMd him saying I have a lot of stuff on my plate but I get back to him ASAP. Mods may close or he can post on this thread if he wants to see if anyone knows what they are doing. I don't expect it to be a long wait, HJT logs don't take that long to look into.
