Buying a Computer
#1
Hey, I am interested in getting a new computer but I don't know what computer I should get with the maximum of $800 to spend. I also want to have the best performance for this amount of money. I'm not that good with computers so I guess I'll be asking you guys. Any Suggestions?

PS. I'll mostly be using this computer for gaming and watching movies.

Here's my suggestion. Try to use that one until Windows Vista comes out.

When Windows Vista comes out, the default ram will be 3 Gigs, and price is going to be around what you want. Everything about windows vista is going to be good, and it'll be 2x better than anything you can get with 800 dollars.

So heres my suggestion: Hold on a bit longer till vista comes out, trust me you'll be happy Big Grin

ppl say its going to be good but vista does have its downsides still. its requirements are a bit high and the dos is a bit glitchy not to mention the kernal now runs on pipelines which means hacking and viruses are more capable of entry. they already are planning another version of vista after its final release. they may want that. if its for video, ati would be good. good gaming/video system would be an nvidia board with ati card and some critical type ram. if you get a duo processor, get new fans. the stock ones dont help for snot with the heat and probably get a case fan for it too.

You say requirements are too high, i already know that..

They are not ganna release a vista computer like in bestbuy that can't handle it self will they? No. They will atleast have to pack 3+ gigs of ram, and that will make your computer great. They won't release Vista with bugs either, you think XP wasn't bugged when they first made it?

And let's just say VISTA SUCKS, you can still buy the computer with all the good shit on it, uninstall vista and install XP! THATS SMART!

Vista I do not suggest getting for 2 years or so. You may want to wait for Vista for hardware, but I suggest you still use XP.

They have this new P2P built in that is going to completley screw NAT routers from stealthing, they have a totally re-written and buggy network stack... as of the RC (Release Candidate) 1 they have out now in beta, it is still so buggy and the most insecure operating system put out by Microsoft yet..

If you thought XP was bad before SP2 (You had your computer on interent without a router\software firewall you got Sasser within 2-3 days), then look out for Vista.

I'll probably stick with xp, just to see what i would like and dislike about vista before switching.

By the way, is this computer any good?
