ZoneAlarm is not the best firewall anymore, and it has become bloated with shit you don't need *let's try and do everything just ok instead of doing a few things good, a policy taken by many companies now*

I personally suggest Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall... its from the old makers of the free Sygate, its now developed fully for a small price but has a free version. Its lighter on your system then ZoneAlarm, easier to configure, more user friendly GUI, better firewall...

http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm

I can link you also to the free version, it is quite enough but you said you did not mind paying and the paid does have other usefull features to it.

I will ask you this, do you have a router? Basically if any badies get into your system, there are known ways of turning off any software firewall rather easily. NAT routers are cheap now, work a lot better as a firewall (basically, unlesss you said "Let's talk" no one is allowed to talk to your computer\internet *AKA it drops unsolicited packets*) , make it easy for computers to share internet access and are very hard to be effected by malware...

I personally just use a router but I do have a copy of Kerio installed incase I want to see if a program is trying to "phone home" (send personal data back to their servers wo my knowledge)

1. well, not pay more like downloadfor free.

2. no i don't. a router is a hardware firewall right? it's hooked up between your cable modem and comp?

Yeah, a nat router is a hardware firewall.

If you want to crack it crack the pro version, or you can download the free version of that firewall. I found one on torrents easily enough...

And yeah, router goes in between modem > computer.

could get panda platinum. its an all in one antivirus phishing, adware etc with firewall. If you want a small but dependable firewall theres nod firewall or black ice firewall. Black ice seems to find things better than zone alarm.
