#1
Well, i was watching movies i downloaded earlier just fine on Windows Media Player a few hours ago now when i try to watch any videos at all it doesn't come up with a video it just has sound, and at the bottom it says ''Connecting to Codec Server .. Sending request for codec .. Error downloading codec'' its really pissing me off cause i dont think i did anything and it never did this before, does anyone have any idea how i can fix this problem?

EDIT: I posted in the wrong section on accident, my bad, this should go in the tech section of the forum.

main video types for xp are divx, xvid and direct x. The newer ones are mkv, mp4, mpeg-4 layer and 4gp. an xp pack and poor mans codecs should do fine.

thats not entirely true. there are clean ones out there. plus no one is dumb enough to install without checking with an antivirus.

K-Lite is clean, trust me.

Yes, there are codec packs that have malware. The one mentioned is not one of those.

Thanks alot guys, i got it working i just downloaded K-Lite, and it works very well, but i dont know why it stopped playing videos in the first place it never had any problems playing videos before until last night.

It was a video encoded in some format not normally supported by WMP. It was obviousally one of the formats supported by K-Lite and it recognized it.

Some files like .avi are almost always DivX, but other file formats can range from no codec needed to 2-3 different ones depending on how it was encoded.
