help with windows media player!

whenever i try to run windows media player on my comp it says an internal application error has occured and then whenever i try to play something over the internet it says cannot create direct show player.

anyone know how i might be able to fix this?

sounds like bad or old codecs, try updating the codecs.

i just uploaded the newest media player, and still no luck.
It says the exact same thing...the error comes up and media player doesn't even open.

you can get free codecs from free-codecs.com if you are trying to play mkv, you need to get another player. the new windows media doesnt support it.

Get the K-Lite Codec Pack from there. It will play 99% of all video files.

Choose the "LOTS OF STUFF" installation or whatever it is called inside the installation. Your computer will then play almost anything from Winamp\WMP automatically.
